It should go as follows: 1) ##program8700 (##77647268700) SEND 2) Service code: 0 0 0 0 0 0 3) Hit #3 for "network select" 4) Hit #1 for "mode preference" 5) select 1x only and press OK 6) Hit the power key to exit out of the menu. Hope this works.

Just as an FYI, the latest version of the 8600s are also the same as the 8700.

What I meant was on the latest version of the 8600, the menu 0, no longer works. I haven't had a chance to try the new version of the 8600, so I am not sure if the code is the same as that for the 8700, but it should be either that one or ##program8600 SEND. Hope it makes sense now.

Why would someone want to take their EVDO off? Isn't that a better type of communcations than CDMA (or am I totally confused, which would really not be anything new. I'm completely cell-tech illiterate)?

| Because if you live in a poor evdo signaled area, and or if your traveling within a not so good evdo area and the signal goes in and out and constinatly searches and drains the battery a great dealer. I originally was charging my phone every 2 days, and now since turning the evdo off i only charge it every 5 days or if not longer ! plus i dont use the v cast crap so i have no need for it,

However, i was in NYC today and was so completely enamored by VCast that I have to say - how could anyone think it was crap? I finally felt like I could keep in touch with the world, even when I was hours from home. It also helped us to decide whether to stay for the fireworks (weather), and my baseball highlights. Very slick. | |

EVDO is high speed data transmission, and the reason it depletes battery is an EVDO capable phone is always searching for it and if you are in a fringe area, it keep switching back & forth. Here is Wikipedia's explanation of EVDO. BTW, welcome to WA.

No that does not sound right it should last you at least 4.5 hours. I work for Verizon and that definatly is a battery issue.
