This number has been showing up all all three of our family plan numbers...and increasing in the last couple months. 58 minutes on my number, 38 on my husbands phone, and 61 on my daughters. I know about get it now and everything..we do alot of texting, do not have mobile web and are certainly not looking around on getitnow at 3 and 4 in the morning as my bill says I am. They show up as Data calls originating from our home city...and last month they showed up as data calls originating from a town an hour away. The calls all range between 1 and 6 minutes and come in succesison, such as 3:04, 3:05, 3:07, 3:12 am. Sometimes there are one or two calls in succession and other times there can be 9 or 10. I called Verizon and spoke with them and they had no explanation and told me that I must be sending pictures or something...tried tell them I am sleeping at that time and it is happening on all of our phones all at random times with no set patterns. The only thing we have on all of our phones is Backup Assistant that would need to connect and that was just within the last 3 months, this has been going on since January or so. I have Evdo disabled on all three of our phones also if that helps information-wise. I also noticed on our of our bills that up until this month there were always minutes broke down as SharePlan, IN, and Nights and Weekends....this last bill they are SharePlan, Promotional (our plan is a year old), and IN calling. Anyone have any ideas what is going on? I looked around on the web a little bit, but there wasn't any real explanation. And thanks alot for taking the time to read through this. ~~ Laurel |

My best guess is that it is your backup assistant. My backup assistant has been messing around quite a bit as well here duing the night hours (I set mine to synch at night), so my best advice would be to get rid of backup assistant for a while to see if that makes a difference.

We have also been having the same problem w/our phones. We have 5 phones on our account. Some of the charges have been during the night/early morning while we're all asleep. I work at UPS at night and we aren't allowed to bring cell phones into the hub....we walk through metal detectors to get in so there is no way to bring my phone in. But yet somehow my phone that sits in my glovebox while i'm working is using the web while i'm inside working. We tried calling the CS to get somewhere but we get about 6 different reasons as to why the charges are there. Also they are saying that we are using the phone regardless of wht we are telling them. So we called the corporate number and are waiting to hear back from them. Depending on what they have to say we might be filing a complaint with the BBB and the state attorney's office. I suggest you do the same. We went back through our last 5 bills and so far have found over 1000 minutes of usage w/this charge totaling over $650 dollars. I'm not sure how much more we've been charged for it though. I've researched this online and have found hundreds of other people w/the same problems. Maybe if we all complain enough they will have to fix it. This only happens w/Verizon customers though, not other service providers. Good Luck! |

Images: 37 | This is what I have experienced as well... I had my backup assistant sync late at night to avoid peak minute use because of the data. I have never been charged fees for data sessions. If someone is being charged for data, it's probably because their peak minutes were used up (triggering per minute overages) or their data allowance was used up (triggering per KB FEES). If backup is the problem, it can be set to no sync until you so choose. Otherwise, data should be blocked (or used only during offpeak) or a plan should be chosen.

I went back to the website & sure enough, if you look hard enough, it does say these types of messages use airtime. Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth, as I really did not realize this is how it works. Maybe someone else will benefit from my experience. | |

Images: 37 | I learned this the hard way when I noticed my Alltel prepaid balance went down because I browsed the web... in the online details, the charge is called '1X to minutes' or something like that.

Images: 37 | Our GSM brethren don't charge airtime AFAIK... this could be a pro or con depending on the person. As for me, I didn't care about airtime use since I have more than enough minutes.... now I use the Q, I have unlimited data; so I'm covered either way.

Possible answer for you! I have been incurring erroneous data charges on my bill for the past 2 years. I have a razor phone, not sure if that is significant or not. My phone was replaced twice to attempt to fix the problem. Prior to issuing a new phone, my phone was flashed with the latest software first, when that didn't work a new phone was issued. Last week went thru the same process AGAIN!!!! I was told to have the phone flashed with current software, if it didn't work yet ANOTHER phone would be issued. I ]insisted that the data charges were incurred each time I powered on my phone. I would see a data call icon when I powered on. I was told this was IMPOSSIBLE. My phone was AGAIN updated with the latest software....... fortunately I FINALLY ended up with a representative that was knowledgeable. That did not work. I do not fully understand the problem, but he said that there was a shortcut established in my phone (all three????, what are the chances-and was transparent to me), when I powered on it not only turned the phone on but activated another service as well. My guess is that something is pre- programmed in the phone when purchased that the consumer is unaware of and needs to be deactivated. Final note: I had had ALL services blocked from my phone to prove that I was not ABLE to make these data calls AND apparently at POWER-ON it STILL was able to TRY to connect to something because the DATA charges still appeared on my bill. I hope this helps someone because I know how frustrating this is. My service is verizon. Last edited by mrb; 02-09-2008 at 10:18 AM. Reason: typo |

My daughter has: Verizon, A pink razor, txt & pics. I do NOT have the backup assistant program. The 777 issue started with the addition of Pic which is when I removed the txt and pics blocks through Verizon. I still have all other internet services blocked. Verizon tells me that pics messaging works through Get-it Now and that something other than normal pics are activating Get-it Now. You cannot block Get-it Now and still sent/rec pics which I pay for. Another fact is that this also appears to mostly (not always) happen when the phone is turned on. I am suspecting that either 1) Some of the pictures the kids receive could have spyware or the like and something was installed or at least runs. 2) Maybe one of the demo games gets activated when you try it and does some kind of check on startup that did not show until I allowed txt/pics by allowing Get-it Now. Actions: 1) Block Get-it Now if you don't send or receive pics. Call a "tech" rather than cust svc. Call back in a day to get someone else to double check they agree that it has been done. Amazing how many times the 1st person screwed up. 2) Start removing any animated pics or programs you installed. Any executable can run "something" on your phone. We are doing this a little at a time. Not sure if it will help and also I am not sure that deleting the pic will uninstall the offending issue. I am just getting killed over this and if anyone has more on this… please please jump in. I will put up another post if we figure it out when removing a few animated pics and the like every few days. I would do it all but that is touchy with a 12yr old daughter. Also, I can see on the Verizon site the day to day activity in My services/my usage. I used to have to wait for the bill in case some of you didn’t notice this. My final thought, Verizon techs are not dumb and have had many calls on this and may even be working on a fix but we will never know. When they do fix it, the tech you get will act as if he is the smartest and none of the others knew what they were talking about and he will try to be your hero.. JUST FIX THE PROBLEM VERIZON. (sorry, got emotional for a sec after about 10 long calls over the past month or so) I hope this helps and sorry I don't have a definitive answer..AIM if you want |

Since the RAZR has VCAST capabilities, perhaps it may be the culprit. If that's not blocked, you may want to try that. On the secondary lines, I have three blocks:
Also, receiving picture and video messages will trigger the "777" minute usage (peak or off peak, depending when the message was received. When I had an older phone, I managed to put my phone into "prompt mode"... I would get a nonbillable notification stating I received a picture message. I had the option to download now, delete the message, or to defer it. I would defer the message to later off-peak time. |

Thanks for the info but I have all blocked that is possible except regular text and Get-it Now which is needed for pics and also appears to be the culprit. I pay for Text/Pics so that is not what I am getting individually charged for. FYI - for all on this thread.. I believe the message block you are referring to is "premium" message block which blocks 'add' type messages to an extent. We also had two 9.99 charges because when you get these message, anything you send back like "who is this" is taken as a subscription authorization. You have to ignore or message back "STOP" if you answered previously. These are usually 5 digit numbers and are from out of the country so Verizon cannot stop them but they will tell you to message "STOP" and credit you. One of these is something like 33999. Thanks for the thoughts and they might help others but I do not believe they will help me. PS. they are happy to credit but I am not happy to make that call that always turns into a 30+ minute deal. |

Also be aware if you are sending picture or video messages, this DOES show up as a data charge and use your plan minutes. I had charges on my bill for several months in a row & no one at Verizon had a clue. It was on my husband's phone & I know he does not use mobile web, but does use text & pix (we have the unlimited bundle). We DO use backup assistant, but it is scheduled during off peak times. I finally got a knowledgable representative who advised me for any pix or flix, it will use up your minutes. My response was "but I have unlimited" messages. I was told the Unlimited means I don't pay $0.25 per pix or flix, but it DOES use air time. I went back to the website & sure enough, if you look hard enough, it does say these types of messages use airtime. Just thought I would add my 2 cents worth, as I really did not realize this is how it works. Maybe someone else will benefit from my experience. I also have the TXT/PIX/FLIX plan ($10/month) and use "backup assistant" and have seen many 777-000-0000 calls on our bill but have not been charged airtime for these calls. Maybe the airtime charges are included in my PTT or VCAST plan. |
