Default General Billing Question

My buddies phone was lost while he was on vacation. He wasn't sure he left it at home or lost it on the trip. Long story short he lost it someone picked it up called over to mexico multiple times and ran the bill up 400.00 dollars. over the regular. The phone was used in the us calling mexico. Verizon told him that he didn`t report it within 48 hours so he is responsible for all the charges. verizon which I have learned from experiance isn't very helpful. is there anything that can be done? any help would be appreciated.

I have just had a very good experience with a lost phone and Verizon taking responsibility for the calls made. I called about 5 hours after losing the phone and Verizon took responsibility of all charges made within the last 48 hours, so even for calls I still made!!!

I'm not sure exactly as to what their policy is, but I guess your friend could try to call them again and talk to a different rep...Honestly, though, it's not Verizon's fault if your friend does not report his phone stolen in a timely matter.

yea thats just it he didnt report it within the 48 hours. I would seem kind of weird to me the phone was used to call say the same 15 numbers for all its life. Then suddenly mexico guatamala multiple numbers back to back for 3 days wouldn't look kinda strange to me.I have T Mobile and I would never switch. its for horror stories like these.

Well, I am sorry about your friend's experience, but the carrier has to draw the line somewhere- and I promise you other carriers have a time policy as well- it's not just one carrier doing this.

It blows my mind that someone wouldn't report losing their phone within a few hours of misplacing it... I mean, if I lost my phone or credit card I would try to report it immediately to work against fraudulent charges. As for this case I think your friend is responsible for the charges simply because he failed to tell anyone about it....

I tried to say this indirectly.
I agree completely with your statement, especially about his friend being responsible.
