Default Verizon in both Akron, OH and Seattle, WA?

My hu sband and I are getting ready to switch from Sprint (bleh - dropped calls galore) to _________ . Verizon is currently the front runner.

My question is - what is the Verizon quality like in Akron compared to Seattle, Washington, where we plan to move to next year?

I know that in our area, Alltel is considered the best followed by Verizon and Cingular.

Thoughts? I'm just starting this research, so ALL comments will be appreciated!

It all depends in specific area's of the grand city you're talking about, I would venture to guess that the coverage should be fairly good in populated areas. However, upon inspection of Verizon coverage map vs the cingular coverage map once you leave the city on say I-90 you have large dead spots, you may want to consider a GSM carrier such as T-mobile or Cingular.

I was up in Seattle back in August and the coverage with Verizon was great. We didnt travel much into the out skirts of the city or around the state but I did run into a few dead spots on the way to Mt. Rainier. I had virtually no service the whole time we were in the Mt. Rainier park. Within Seattle coverage was great and I was even able to hold a call on the ferry over to Brainbridge Island.

Based on what my family up there has told me. Verizon has the best coverage of any carrier in Washington. I think they may have been on Cingular before. I've never been to Akron so I'm not sure what the coverage is like there. It may be such a thing where you want to just sign a 1 year contract now so when you do move you wont have a long term contract to fill if coverage isn't all that great.

Seattle has great service. This area was the old Airtouch "B" side of the network. In my opinion VZW is the leader in this area. Between me and the fam you can keep all the other carriers.

Well, I've been to both cities, and you will have no regrets with Verizon in both places. I have traveled to both cities with multiple phones and without question got the best service from Verizon.

We travel all the way to the west coast of the Olympic Peninsula. Verizon kept going long after the other carriers gave up. And the phone keeps working across the channel and well into BC (albeit roaming). As you travel south into OR, there are some challenges for all carriers, so you'll need to deal with that should you find yourself in those areas.

In Seattle, Verizon is 2nd to none. It's a blast to yak away on the deck of the ferries without the worries of driving. Pick an out-of-the-way town to live in (like Port Townsend) and you still have good coverage. In Akron, Alltel is better, but not because of in-town coverage, but what happens outside of town. But even there, Verizon has been adding new sites like crazy down state...mostly on I-77.

What a change, to move from Akron to Seattle! Day & Night! What a great opportunity! Forget the phone, it'll work!

Thanks for making the decision easy for me, everyone! Verizon was my definite frontrunner, and the result of this thread sealed the deal I believe.

We need a change. No offense to those who live in the midwest and love it, but we consider ourselves not mid-west material. We've done so much research on different cities, and Seattle won! What a cool, cool place. I think a great city to raise our son in.

So I appreciate the feedback! Oh, I did have Verizon like three years ago. I TRIED like heck to get my husband then to drop his Sprint and jump on my Verizon plan. But Sprint gave him a heck of a deal to stay, so I dropped the Verizon. BAAAAAAD move. I was so happy with my Verizon service even back then.

So Verizon it is!!! (although if anyone else has some opinions, please post!)

coverage in Akron is great...with the exception of some of the buildings on the U of Akron Campus.

I've had vzw in akron for the last 5 years and probably only dropped 1 or 2 total calls
