Question Deteriorated Vrzn Reception in Twin Oaks (Caliente)CA???

After 10 years of good service, in mid-July (2006) Verizon turned really bad. It's a very rural area (large ranches) and nothing has built up to interfer. Other people who live in the area have said their service worsened around the same time. When I contacted Verizon, Tech. Serv., they say nothing has changed in the area. I get "canned answers" made to sound personal. (In my opinion) Any ideas??? CR

BTW: The closest tower is about 20 miles away - Bealville Rd. at Hwy. 58. Another is just south (toward Tehachapi) at Keene Rd. & Hwy. 58

If the closest tower really is 20 miles away...it's possible that before you were roaming on the extended network with someone else before July. But now VZW has built out towers just barely in reach of you and you are hitting the native network. Causing your phone to have an unusable, but enough not to roam, signal. Although another possible situation is that VZW is expanding their high speed EVDO in your area and are testing it out. This can cause a lot of reception issues but once it is finished should be back to normal good coverage.

Ok I just checked the coverage in your area. They are indeed building out EVDO data coverage in Caliente. You can see the "future vcast coverage" area on their coverage locator...

Very helpful! Thanks. You mean the coverage shown on www.verizonwireless.com. Right?
Any idea how long it might take to complete the EVDO system? CR

The EVDO overlay should have nothing to do with your voice coverage, unless something was changed on the cellsites or they are doing work on the site. Escalate your problem. Have everyone you know with Verizon open trouble tickets...the more the better. Don't settle for a canned answer, politely state that you cannot use your phone OUTDOORS anymore where you used to(be sure to specify outdoor) and have everyone else do the same. Tell them you won't settle for anything less than a trouble ticket. The more people complain the sooner you will get attention.

Actually it can affect it. There are many reports of increased dropped calls while EVDO is being tested.
If the actual amount of coverage you are getting ("bars") is less then it was then there is something wrong with the network. I don't think that it is a coincidence that they are just putting in EVDO the summer of 06 and calls start deteriorating then. One way or the other that is affecting it.

Yep I do mean the maps on verizonwireless.com, but either way it can't hurt to do as andy says and report the trouble.
