Default ESN & anything else needed

I have a Motorola Startac ST7868W and a whole pile of accessories, batteries and other items. The phone I use has developed a problem. The keys on the outer part of the phone, 1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, * & # do not work.

I have tried replacing all parts of the phone and know it is in the bottom board. This board also has the chip that has the ESN and any other identifying codes, or whatever, that make it mine. I have another brand new phone just like the one I am using now.

I would like to find either a service that can or instructions on how to transfer the information from the old phone to the new one. Once the transfer is complete, I do not plan on using the old phone. I do not want to get another model as this worked perfectly until the buttons quit working. As I mentioned, I have too much invested in this model and would rather not give it up.

Any help out there?

I don't think they will let you do this. The StarTac's are not E911 compliant, and I wouldn't trust getting a phone cloned. It'll be cheaper & easier to just buy a new phone and accessories.

I don't know who "they" are, but I am looking for someone who can and will.

I know this phone doesn't have GPS capabilities. Since it is already on the network, they will let me continue using it as long as it keeps working. The "they" in this last statement is Verizon. I already checked with them. I was using it before the law went into effect, so it is grand fathered in. This is also why I am looking outside to get the phone cloned.

As far as trusting someone, I have this phone on a Pay-As-You-Go contract and never put more than $15 on it at any time. If I noticed my minutes gone, I would only be out $15 or less, not much of a risk. Also, it is very old technology and most hackers are not interested in cloning one of these older phones. In fact, it is also because it is so old that I also want to keep it. Nobody is interested in stealing my phone. I have left it on a table and seen people open it, look at it and put it back down. It doesn't even have a color screen and there are only five tones to choose from, no bells nor whistles. Any other phone would be gone in a flash.

I don't know if it would be cheaper until someone makes an offer to do this for me. I will have to make that decision when I hear their price.

Thank you for your reply, I am not being sarcastic or anything like that, it is just that I have already thought about this and that is why I joined this forum.

Well, my mom bought a brand new TracFone Motorola V60 that is 911 compliant for $20 about 6 months ago. Like your StarTac it has a B&W screen, and no downloadable ringtones, plus it has voice dialing. There are low cost phones available like you arready have. Trust me, nobody wants to steal a V60 either, because the technology is about 5 years old now. If you really want to clone this phone I would check with either HowardForums or Motomodders, but if you do find someone to do this I still think it will be cheaper to replace than to clone.
