Default EVDO disconnect

I was thinking of disabling the Evdo feature to save battery. So I have a few questions.
1) What does EVDo do , and do I need it>?
2) how can I disable, disconnect the Evdo on my lg 8300.
3) any other tips for saving battery?

Timmush,

I am pretty sure this is how you do it on all current LG phones (at least this is how it works on our two LG 8000's):

Steps:

1. From the home screen press menu and then press 0
2. The security code to enter is 000000
3. Select "network select"
4. select "mode preference"
5. Switch to 1x only
6. Press end (phone may power cycle)

After you perform the above steps, see if the EV (if EVDO is in your area yet) icon on the top of the screen disappears. If it does, then you have successfully turned EVDO off.

Tips:

I have found that when charging the phone, it is best to turn it off while charging. I have also found that if you fully charge and discharge (let the phone completely or almost die) then that will also help the life of the battery.

You can also buy the extended battery, but that is your last resort, since I believe it is $44.99.
