--------------------------------------------------------------------
Some people have had problems getting their V3m to work with BitPim. This may help. Create a shortcut to Device Manager on your desktop, in Win XP, by right clicking a blank area on the desktop, point to New, and click Shortcut. Type devmgmt.msc in the window that says “type the location of the item” and click next and then type Device Manager in the “Type a name for the shortcut” window and click finish. A shortcut to Device Manager will now be available on your desktop. Double-click your new Device Manager shortcut. Plug in your V3m, turn it on, and be sure it shows up in Device Manager, under Modems, as a Motorola USB Modem.

Now launch BitPim. Open BitPim Settings. Select Phone Wizard. Under carriers select Verizon. Manufacturers/Motorola. Models/V3cm. Click next. For communications port setting select auto. Click next and then finish. This takes you back to BitPim settings where you select Browse. This will take you to Choose A Comm Port. After the Available Ports are refreshed you will see available and unavailable ports. Your Motorola USB Modem should show up under Available Ports. Select Motorola USB Modem and then OK and OK. This will take you back to the main BitPim screen. Select edit then Phone Info. You should now see the Phone Info Dialog and your V3m information should be there. Click OK to close info box. Select View and then View Filesystem. Select the Filesystem icon in the tree view (on the lower left) and you should be able to browse your file system. Good luck.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus you can check RAZR V3m thread here (p5,6,...) but I recomend to read everything.

Disconnect the phone and install following driver:
http://www.bvrp.com/Customers/Motorola/DriverTool.zip
This driver much newer and support higher speed while you are in Modem mode. It will uninstall all old drivers and install new one. Do not panic if it will show V3c phone. During installation let XP to find the best driver (default).
When you are done, plug your phone back and make sure in device manager you got new device Motorola USB Modem. If so, try to use BitPim again.
I added the same to RAZR V3m thread.

yeah you just have to install the driver in that zip file and manually select the port in bitpim. its called "motorola usb modem" or some such thing and it should be activated if the driver is properly installed and your phone is connected. also you can use either the v3c or v3cm profile to access many of the features that bitpim has for the v3m. i have to say that MPT 4 is looking a lot better atm.

should MPT be running when using bitpim?

The only way i can get the USB modem available is when the phone is completely off.

Tried and true method for BitPim

1.) Close ALL programs.
2.) Reboot computer - make sure phone and cable are not connected first.
After reboot.
3.) Connect your phone to mini-usb
4.) Connect cable to computer
5.) Start BitPim
6.) Close All windows that popup, if any popup
7.) From the BitPim Welcome screen
8.) Click on Edit from menu
9.) Click on Setting - 'BitPim Setting' window will display
10.) Click on Browse button across from Com Port
11.) Another window called 'Choose a comm port' will display
Look for "Motorola USB Modem" in the Available Ports Section
12.) If it is NOT listed anywhere, you need to close ALL open windows including BitPim, remove your phone and cable from computer and install DriverTool.zip, then reboot computer, then start this process over again.
13.) Click one time on "Motorola USB Modem"
14.) Click on OK button
15.) the Com Port field will automatically fill-in for you
Note: Do NOT fill this in by hand even if you know the comm port as BitPim does NOT like it if you do - I do not know why - especially IF #12 above is 'true'.
16.) Make the following are SET on the "BitPim Settings" screen
Read Only = uncheck
Disk Storage = leave as is – Take special note of this location. It is where BitPim is going to store the information it gets off of the phone.
Config File = as is
Phone Type = V3cm (next to the phone listed, click on the arrow pointing down; scroll down the list to find V3cm and select it.)
Com Port = filled in from #13, 14 and 15 above
Check for update = never
Start = uncheck
Task Bar Icon = uncheck
Autodetect at Startup = uncheck
BitFling = as is
17.) Click on the Ok button - you are taken back to BitPim Welcome screen
18.) Click on Edit
19.) Click on Detect Phone

You should be up and ready to rock and roll now.

rwsrichard,
I did exactly what you posted and excitedly I was able to download the phone contacts and images on the phone. What I am trying to do is import some ringtones onto the phone. I have 30 second mp3 files (which i can convert to wav or qcp if need be). My question is: Were you success in accessing the ringtones portion of the phone? Adding and removing ringtones? Let me know, I think I am about to pull my hair out! Feel like I am taking crazy pills! Thanks.

COOL! mp3 ringers, here I come. Much appreciated, rwsrichard.
I am trying to play around with the "Filesystem" option in BitPim. Anyone know where I can read some documentation on what all the jibberish is? Thanks!

Look at this forum for help and suggestion.

http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ve...-razr-v3m.html

Do search on BitPim and file system.

Things are jumbled up on the forum, just be patient in looking.

Please help, I just got my v3m phone recently and I've tried visiting different website w/info on using the bitpim. I followed exactly what you posted above richard and everything worked good except the last part where I hit detect phone, but it still did not recognize my v3m. And zeck I tried what you recommended on making a shortcut for the device manager until I could browse the phone, but when I tried to ul music onto the /motorola/sharing/audio folder, it said that the phone doesn't allow me to do that and the could not detect box keeps popping up that makes me so mad.

The only thing I haven't tried is using MPT, but I don't want waste my money on that cause I've heard that some features are disable for verizon carrier. I've tried looking over the threads for the past two days already and everything I've read are so confusing that I'm so clueless.

Nvm, I gave up and spent the money to buy the MPT 4.0 and It works good, although how can we organize the songs and put more songs in the phone? I could only put like four in and the phone won't accept a fifth cause says file too big (proly ran out of space) Is MPT preferably used to transfer ringtones and pictures in than setting up a music library? If so, then I assume I need to buy the microSD (transflash) in order to store a lot of music and use it to play on my phone?

If Motorola USB Modem is listed under "Ports not available". The means that another software package has not released the modem.

Sometimes re-booting will take care of the problem. If it still presists, then I would uninstall then reinstall again.

When I use MPT then try another program, I get the same problem, 'sometimes'. It seems that MPT, on occassion, will not 'release' the modem back into the available area. So a reboot takes care of it.

I would uninstall it, then reinstall it. You have a conflict of some kind going on with the modem and some other software.

Look at post 8 in this thread and follow those instructions.

If you want a copy that has steps AND screen shots go to

http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ra...3c-v3m-20.html (Motorola RAZR ( CDMA versions ) post your questions here)

then scroll down to post 584 and download that file. If you still have problems let us know, BUT give more detail of what is wrong to help us better understand you problem.

Thanks to all who have posted - It's been a great help. Now - after following instructions posted here I have my V3M talking to Bitpim 9.05. I've made the seem edit (a little scary at first w/ all the disclaimers), but it worked and I have all my custom ringtones, pictures, and contacts from my old LGVX6000 now safely inside my new Razr. However, the ringtone and picture assignments for specific contacts did not transfer together, (ie Contact "Dad" did not show up with "Dad's" Picture or Special Ringer). This worked great on the LG, and the Razr will let me do it manually - I just would like to transfer it since its already done on the PC.

Hey, this is my first post and, hopefully, it won't piss anyone off.

Thanks for the info rwsrichard! But I got one problem. In the middle of get phone data, Bitpim is saying it can't transition between "brew and obex". How do I get around that.

That means that the OBEX function has been disabled and you will have to SEEM the phone to turn that function on.

See post 10 on this thread.
