I'm about to be a VZW Prepaid client, but I need help on activation! :(

I just purchased a Motorola T731c off of eBay last night (nope, I haven't received it yet). The seller's company says the phone is available for both Alltel and Verizon Prepaid services, but the phone doesn't come activated for the buyer. I am very much interested in VZW's INPulse Pay As You Go plan (free night minutes!) But I'm not quite sure how to get this phone activated without paying the "large" amount of $35 (money is an issue because I am a student who is financially struggling). I was wondering that now that I've purchased this phone, can VZW support this model? And I also saw on eBay some activating services, but the seller can only do it in a Florida area code. Since I reside in California, I'll need a San Diego area code. I wonder if I have the phone activated by the person and if I call VZW to change the area code, think it'll work?

I just got an Inpulse Audiovox 8615 from Walmart for $80 and activated it on Page Plus.

The manual says to activate on Inpulse call *22888 or visit store. They give a number to add time, 1-800-294-6840 or #729
