Default Is month-to-month a bad idea?

1-year contract with VZW ends this month. I've called to ask if anything will change on my AC 450 plan--price, allotted anytime minutes, etc. They said no, but the CSR didn't sound real bright.

A previous CSR who sounded smarter said there was no reason to renew the contract if I'm happy with my LG VX3200--which I am. It occurred to me that they might try to raise the price--but they know I could in turn switch carriers.

Anyone done month-to-month before and have any advice?

Thanks!

Nothing wrong with Month to Month. I was month to month with Verizon forever. My price plan never went up nor did the things change on it.

In my opinion your actually in a good position...because perhaps in the future something better will come out and then you are in the position to get a new phone and or price plan to fit your needs without the contract date hanging over your head. Hope that helps.

Thumbs up Thanks!

Wow--that was fast! 'Preciate the reassuring advice, kjo.

Yeah, you'd think they'd try to entice me into re-upping--I even suggested as much to them. But all they could offer was $20 off a new phone. And I love my VX3200. (I drop it all the time, and it just keeps taking it.)

Till Verizon waves some serious bait in front of me, I'll coast on the month-to-month, as you suggest.

I've been on month-to-month with Verizon for about two years. The only issues is that eash year on the plan anniversary their computers would "forget" that my old plan includes free nights & weekends. Each year I would call customer service and they would reset the feature. They never changed my rate or other conditions. Howeber, I was on a plan that was "guaranteed for life" when I first signed up, perhaps in 2001 or 2002, so it would be a violation of the plan terms to change anything. I'm chaging now ONLY because my beloved StarTac is being forced off the Verizon network.

I rarely say this but the CSR is right in this case. You don't have to renew your contract if you are not looking for a new subsidized phone.

I was month to month for 6 months with Verizon untill I got the LG 7000 free for renewing my contract.

I have been on a month to month with Cingular since October and have no plans to enter into another contract.

Hope This Helps.

Their new plans (perhaps only two-year plans) include a $100 credit for a new phone after two years if you reup.
I should also add that my old "lifetime" plan did not have this feature, but Verizon customer service added the $100 credit to my current month-to-month plan when I called, said I neded a new phone because of E911 and might move to Cingular since I was off plan.

I would stay month-to-month, because at some point Verizon will want you back under contract, and if you're lucky, offer you a sweat deal.

Depends on what you mean by sweet deal. Verizon might offer some kind of incentive to renew but I'm not sure about a "sweet deal." Other than some bonus minutes that expire after a short time, or some incentives on some phone models customers are usually renewed on existing plans and phone promotions.

Although my current plan still has some time to go I am very satisfied with it. I don't think there is anything they could give me to make me renew just to keep me from going month to month once it expires unless it was more minutes for less money
