Default What up with verizon voice mail charges?

I use verizon.. a little preview of the old way of getting around voice mail charges that no longer works...

1. Create a Contact called "Voice Mail"
2. Under this contact, enter a phone number like this:
*86TTT<your password_code_number_goes_here>. Each "T" adds a pause of about 2 secs (+/-), so use as many Ts as necessary.
3. Create a Voice Dial for this. Perhaps record "Voice Mail". Press the side Voice Dial button, speak "Voice Mail", and your phone dials: *86 ... connects ... pauses ... dials your code ... BINGO! connected.

When I see I have a Voice Memo, I hit END then the VoiceDial button and say "Voice Mail" - easy in subdued light, while driving, etc.

METHOD 2:
As above, but make this *86TTT<your password_code_number_goes_here> number a speed dial.

There appears to be a new problem?.... even when you call your own cell "with" your cell, when you get your bill it is charged as *86 with airtime charged?
The only way around the charge is to call from a landline!

Does anyone know another workaround so we can call voicemail from our cell without being dinged airtime?

Sorry, no way around it. VZW got smart on everyone using the 'call yourself' trick and corrected it. Technically, checking your voicemail should be charged airtime since you aren't calling ANOTHER VZW CUSTOMER.

And could a mod move this thread to the VZW Users' forum?

There are some backdoor numbers that have worked for years, but as Verizon is upgrading people to new voicemail platforms those old numbers either get shut down or become useless, and it doesn't seem like anybody is finding out new backdoor numbers.
Backdoor numbers have always been charged M2M.

Is this a money issue or just the thrill of the hunt?
