You need to call CS and add Mexico roaming to your account. There is no additional fee to do this. When my daughter was on vacation in Cancun in July she was able to call home twice with no difficulty. The charge was $.69/min. Two calls cost me about $4.00

Old thread, but, I have got a LG VX 8100 and a LG VX3300, international calling and the North America plan, and can´t call out to anywhere except local area Mexico numbers. This was supposed to be the plan that works in Mexico just like home. And Verizon tech support had no clue as to what was wrong. NO CLUE !
if anyone has any ideas as to why i can´t call home or to my wifes vx 3300 that is with us here in Puebla, please let me know.

Robert

I had exactly the same problem with my VX4500. A friend has a Motorola V710 and it worked fine.

If you are in the first year of a two year contract, you should be able to switch to a north america for a month. Call and have them set it to change at the billing cycle before you leave. Then, have them make it switch back when you've returned, this will avoid pro-ration. DO THIS WITH A ROAMING SUPPORT PERSON (when you call to tell them you intend to use it in mexico), they are VERY KNOWLEGEABLE PEOPLE, and they (if anyone) will get it right the first time. Just know that If they've changed specifics of regular plans, you might have to choose another one when you get back. Depends on how much use you expect as to if this is worthwhile.

if you will just stay there for
a week paying roaming won't be bad.

In Puerto Vallarta, I also could neither make nor receive any calls on my Verizon phone, but the same phone, same plan, in Mazatlan, worked perfectly, local and to/from USA.

I'm told by Verizon CS Mexico roaming is hit or miss. My roaming was on the Iusacel network. I have a TelCel SIM for my GSM phone which works 100% there.
