Upgrade's are made to cause you to renew your contract, ie sign with us for another 2 years and we'll sell you a phone at contracted price. Generally phones here in the states are sold subsidized, the price is lowered in exchange for a vow to use their service for a period. A classic example of this is the Motorola V3 Razr, while it was selling at $99 with activation, without activation the phone still ran nearly $400, the wireless companies make this money back by making profit off your plan.

Yes you will be able to get whichever phone your service provider cells, if they sell the krzr then yes, if not then no. This is only in reference to what phones they sell and if you wish to end your contract with them then don't get a new phone with them.

(Going with the assumtion that you're talking about US Cellular) They allow you to renew your contract every 20 months (or every 18 months in the Chicago market) to get a new phone, at the subsized price... meaning you wouldn't pay 400 bucks for a KRZR. You'd pay the in-store price with a 2-yr agreement. Also, you wouldn't be required to change your price plan... even if you're on one of the OLDDD $25 dollar plans. The phone might cost a little more in store if you're on an older plan, but they don't force you to change your price plan if you don't want too.

I believe that if you're on one of the old grandfathered in plans, then the phone will be either $50 or $70 more if you want to keep that plan.
