Hi, I have been a user of US Cellular since 1997, starting with analog, then going to TDMA, and in late 2003, to their new CDMA system. I am located in New Hampshire, and am fairly familiar with US Cellular's offerings in the New England market. I'll do my best to answer any questions or help any users posting in this forum. -waywith |

I think you already answered this in the NE forum but do you know how good is their CDMA or even TDMA coverage in the Laconia/Gilmington Ironworks area (pretty much around lake winnipisake)?

Their CDMA coverage is excellent in just about all that area, from my recent experience. I no longer have an operational TDMA phone, but I believe that it is almost as good up there. Bear in mind that US Cellular will no longer activate ANY TDMA phones on their network. The exception is temporary loaner phones when a customer's CDMA phone is being repaired, and the particular store has no spare CDMA loaners. Other than that, it's CDMA-only on new activations. -way |

I had US Celluar in 2000-2001 coverage outside my hometown was great in town and also in the house it was horrible all the time. People many times though I was someone else due to other having the same problem I had. I rarely get a dropped call from Verizon my house in my hometown when I am there. US Cellular is the King in my hometown and that is probably why they do the things they do there.

Hey, it's all about Location, Location, Location. More often than not, US Cellular is the best in areas of the country where they have licenses. But probably not in ALL such areas. There will always be specific locations where they (or any other carrier) has poor RF. 2000-2001 is ancient history, well before USC started up their CDMA 1X network, which is a vast improvement over the old TDMA. Interesting article in the Nov. 6 New York Times about rural wireless service, which mentions Verizon, US Cellular, and several other carriers. Headline is "Where Only the Antelope Play." It's in the Business section (also in Technology). -waywith |

Verizon does have horrible spots in may areas and has lost terriory to Comment Wireless. US Cellular has not lost any of their licensed markets to another by the FCC due to poor buildout, but Verizon has. I am not anti US Cellular they do have a better Cellular network than most if not all PCS providers in there licensed markets. I do think that their PCS network is tons better than the national PCS providers in terms of coverage. My home is about the same not much has change expect by CDMA and Easyedge.

Well... We had US Cellular here, in the TDMA days, and I think around 2001 - 2002 they decided to upgrade their network to CDMA, and dropped off like half of their East TN coverage Area (15 counties out of the whole thing) with Eloqui, and kept us with TDMA. I've had TDMA all the way up until last November, then I upgraded, and now... as a few people have seen as of yesterday I'm a Verizon customer... but when we had USCC here (who I was a customer of for 3 years through analog then to TDMA) they were very good and CS was great too... I would've considered them if they were still in my area.
