I had thought about Alltel years ago before the national plans rolled out. Their regional plan was Virginia to Florida at the time, a lot more useful than my Doswell, Va - Philly Pa CellularOne regional plan, as I had family in Florida. Ultimately though Alltel did not sell service in my area so I could not get it. Now that I have a national plan with rollover a plan like that does not appeal to me.

Did you get the military discount? (assuming you are in the army?)

    Welcome!!

Yeah make sure you get the army discount. Even if you are retired or something you can still get it. Just register an email with military.com if you don't have one already with a .gov. Then when you enroll online at alltel.com use that address. Or if you already have update the address in the profile. It will get added on in 1-2 billing cycles.

Yep 15 percent off the base of the primary line. So if you say have a plan for 49.99 you get it off that, but not any 9.99 add a lines, etc. Any extra doesn't come off though if you have like texting packages etc.

Oh Ok. I thought you were implying that Alltel only offered regional plans at first. Heck, I don't think many people are getting Greater Freedom plans anymore. I know I would not want one. But, I guess it is a nice option for some folks.

At the time I was looking at the plan, there were no national plans. This was like 6 years ago.

Not off the plan descrbed. They described a promotional plan that is not eligible for ANY discounts.

Really? I got the old promo plan 75 dollars, 7pm nights, unlim. n/w. for two lines. And have a discount. Did they change it for the new promo plans?

well, that is what they say, but a lot of business reps will push the discount through anyway, Strunke, I have the same plan you do and get a 20% affinity discount, I was told it wasn't suppose to get the discount, but I got it anyway. I just added a 3rd line and they gave me 7:00 nights free on the 3rd line too. I was told it wouldn't get it, but it did anyway. So, I am paying 69.99 for the 3 lines plus the I got the 3.00 text plan on all 3 lines too. I will never change from this plan! It is awesome!

Ditto. Welcome to Alltel and the alltel club here on WA army1. We hope you never have any of the previous problems you've described over the past few months before switching and just get to enjoy the service. :)

I've been on Greater Freedom since I signed up with Alltel 2 years ago, and in those 2 years I haven't left NC or SC, so I've never had any roaming charges. The extra 300 anytime minutes are nice, but the main reason I stay on GF is being able to edit my PRL to roam on the U.S. Cellular and Verizon systems here. GF plans are no roaming no matter what in your coverage area, but National Freedom is billed by SID.

Don't bother calling...it won't do any good. You need to create an account at Alltel.com, and provide your military email as the contact email address. The system will recognize that and automatically apply your discount within 30-60 days. However, as I mentioned, the rate plan you are describing is NOT eligible for a discount so don't expect one on your bill.

However, as of late they are doing Audits market-by-market. When they see those discounts they remove them as they are NOT supposed to be on promo plans. I've taken many calls regarding this as of late. Sorry, but don't expect them on a promo plan. If you have a discount on your promo plan, don't complain when the system deletes it.

that makes no sense. if someone signs up with a discount they should be able to retain it no matter what. thats messed up.

Also most companys give you a discount off of your service for all your lines and your features. i didnt realize that ALLTEL didnt, thats kinda crappy.

They aren't going to give you an additional discount on a plan that already has discounts, like the promo plans.

if people had it, why take it away? that just seems like a given.

if i sell you a car and you pay 400/month and then i call you one day and say "hey we changed things, you need to pay 450" how would you feel?

thats my point...im not agreeing that people should have a discount ontop of a discount, in fact i am also against that, but my point is that if you are giving a person something already you should not take it away, that is borderline bait and switch

Or you could look at it as your bank discovering that one of their employees has been letting you pay less than you owe on your mortgage.

doesn't matter i left them today, they told me my area signal was strong where i live
in fact i made all roaming calls, so i went to Sprint because they don't charge
for roaming. but this was the only complaint i had, will go back
when they get towers in this area

? You realize they don't charge for roaming but on a few rare carriers. You roam free on vzw, sprint, us cellular, bluegrass.....blinking R or blinking triangle is free roam. Heck it will even show roam when you are on another Alltel system....

Oh, sorry about that they should have. Hate it when employees don't use common sense, I mean they all know about it. Well, I guess if you decide to come back just keep that in mind. They are supposed to be changing the roaming indicator soon to make it more intuitive. Not sure exactly when though.
