Contest CONTEST: Draw your phone...$150 gift card 1st prize!

CONTEST!

It is time for a new contest.....hopefully we'll all get a kick out of this one!

The Draw Your Phone Contest

To enter this contest, you have to draw a picture of your current phone in MS Paint (or the equivalent).
(Pretty much all computers come with a simple drawing program like Paint.)

The point is to free hand draw a picture of your phone so we can all laugh at it.

This will be a random drawing contest.
The quality of your drawing does not factor into who will win this contest.
You can make your drawing as simple or as elaborate as you want.
It will be the most funny for all if you just wing it.

How do you enter?
Draw your phone, attach your picture to this thread and tell us what phone it is.

For example, here is my Verizon HTC 6800.

Prizes:
1st: $150 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
2nd: $100 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
3rd: $50 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com
4th: Choice of any available WA t-shirt
5th: Choice of any available WA t-shirt

When does it end?
Contest ends May 1st, 2009.

Some Rules:
  • One contest entry per member.
  • Posts in this thread without a drawing attached do not count as a contest entry.
  • Your drawing must be your original work and not copied from somewhere.
  • You must have 10 on-topic posts to win this contest. That means posts in this thread or the off-topic sections do not count towards your 10.
  • Sorry, no substitutions on the prizes.
  • Everyone except administrators is eligible for this contest. (Mods are eligible.)

That's pretty much it. The contest starts NOW in this thread.

Feel free to ask any questions or comment on your fellow members' drawings in this thread.

And, the winners by random drawing are......
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
1st: Radio Raiders
($150 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com)

2nd: Sailorcancer
($100 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com)

3rd: hf1khal
($50 gift certificate/card for Amazon.com)

4th: SteveW
(Choice of any available WA t-shirt)

5th: hme83
(Choice of any available WA t-shirt)

If you won a gift certificate, please send a PM to JFB with an email address. The gift cert. will be delivered by Amazon with a code in an email.

If you won a shirt, send me a PM with your mailing info and size.
I only have these sizes available: S, L, 2XL and 3XL

Congratulations to the winners and Thank You to everybody that entered!

Well, here's mine:

It's an LG Voyager VX-10000 from Verizon Wireless...

I actually did this twice, once before I read the rules completely. No, I don't have a lot of free time. The first one is a picture of my G1, done with just the paint tools in Photoshop Elements (brush, pencil, eraser, paint bucket). I didn't even use the shift key to force straight lines. The second, non-rule-compliant one, was done with the drawing tools in MS Word. Notice, I am reading WA.

My Verizon Wireless BlackBerry Storm:

My Storm legend (starting from the very top row far left and going towards the right):

Top of the Storm:
  • Battery level top left
  • Sound selection underneath battery level
  • Current time centered on the top
  • Current date centered under the time
  • Signal strength (in bars) top right
  • Current network voice and data icons (high speed since it is capital "EV")

Icon Row 1:
  • Messages
  • Messaging (my business and personal email accounts, SMS/MMS, BB Messenger Program, and Contact shortcut are all in this folder)
  • The Weather Channel (when it is red, it means there is some sort of alert (during this time, we are in a high fire danger) (the temperature outside was actually 73 when I did my drawing)
  • Clock (I can view the current time and set my alarm)

Icon Row 2:
  • Calendar
  • MemoPad
  • Sound Settings
  • Options

Ok, here's my entry with my HTC Tilt... Note the high resloution of the screen display. I bet you've never seen the Windows logo quite like that...

I should note this was done with MS Paint, with a laptop touchpad.

Eww, touch pad. I refuse to use my laptops touchpad. I carry a bluetooth mouse everywhere I go. My touch pad just does not work well at all.

I have a wireless mouse to use with the laptop, but I decided to not use it, I wanted it to look as bad as possible...

I agree. You can take the girl out of the engineering lab, but you can't take the engineer out of the girl

Unlike some other engineers, I don't cheat (Or should I say I cheat a lot less than "a little" — whatever "a little" means, as I couldn't find any definition that would correlate reasonably well with the amount of cheating in that picture).

The only two tools I used were hand-drawing tool and fill tool.

All engineer have two major redeeming virtues:

1. The ability to be creative within the confines of the guidelines.
2. The attention to details.

I am happy to see that you do show signs of having one of these two.

Aside from the superimposed screen shot & the text, I used the rounded rectangle & the ellipse.

  1. The thought of scanning the phone into Paint did cross my mind
  2. I omitted quite a few details in my sketch

Unfortunately, sometimes engineers have to look for solutions that best answer the customer's needs... build something based on the PRD... that sort of thing

Yes absolutely.

There is also a matter of interpretation of the PRD and the opportunity to show the customer a more time efficient method of reaching the end goal.

If the PRD leaves a lot to interpretation, it's a bad PRD

hme83, I'm with you on this one. I didn't even know I had MS Paint on my computer until this thread was created and I searched programs on my PC. I've never had a use for it, so I never thought it was there.

I'm quite proud of my touch-pad drawn phone, which took about 30 minutes to put together. As rudimentary as it looks, I'm amazed it came out better than I thought it would...

I spent 5 minutes on mine, and it shows Mine looks like it was drawn by a 5 year old with crayons.

LOL. Actually mine turned out better than I would have expected as well. I did get out my mouse - which I rarely use - batteries went dead right after I got just the "blank" outline drawn. So mine is mostly touchpad done too, and I'm not going to admit to how long it took.

I am most proud of the fact that I *remembered* how to get to the character map. But amazingly, I still had to draw some characters. If they are on my phone keys it seems they should be in the character map.

I'll leave it to Blue4Life to improve upon my attempt - or he can do the easy side.
