Switching from Verizon

I am going to buy an iphone as soon as my contract with Verizon expires. That means I have to go to AT&T. How do I do this? If I don't do it on the day that my contract expires, does Verizon automatically sign me up for another 2 years? I live in a very quaint area which means I will have to do all of this on line unless I want to drive a couple of hours. I want to port my phone number also. Thanks for any help that you can give me. I am good with computers but not cell phones.

switching your number is easy. let me answer a few questions for you first though.

1. No your verizon contract wont renew after it runs out unless you goto them wanting to renew it.
2. to setup an iphone you just need to purchase it, download itunes and install it, then hook up the phone and follow the install instructions.
3. you will need your verizon phone #, acct #, and any password you have on the account (if you dont have one setup, it is the last 4 of your social)
4. when you goto setup in itunes you will choose to switch your number from another carrier and follow all the step by step instructions.
