Default OT: posting wirelessly

OK, I give up. I've tried going to http://wa00.com on my Sprint Treo600 to "read and post wirelessly." However, all it brings me to is a page which says,
"This is the wireless entrance for wirelessadvisor.com, etc, etc. You can click on the logo below to go to the online verson."

But if I click on the "logo below," it just brings me to the full blown wirelessadvisor.com site, not a wap or scaled-down version of the website at all. What am I missing here?

I have the problem with my Samsung i600. It has to do with your browser's inability to process the wireless site's code. If it were a WML site, you'd be fine (try HoFo's wireless site), but it's not. Haven't figured it out yet

If you have a PDA phone just go to the regular site. That's what I did when I had my Treo 600. I just turned images off to allow the pages to load faster.

The problem is that the browsers on PDA phones often identify themselves as IE (or it actually is the PocketPC version of IE), so the site thinks you are accessing it from a computer.

If I am not mistaken the moderator WirelessBeachBum posts wirelessly from a Samsung i600.

You can't access the site with a Sanyo 5500? I have used my wife's without a problem.

AnthroMatt, thanks for the suggestion about turning off images. I hadn't even thought of that. I think the problem is a combination of the phone's browser and the wireless site. I can browse some wireless sites just fine. For example, the HoFo site works fine and it recognizes my posts as wireless ones. I did send WirelessBeachBum a PM asking about his i600 posts. Maybe he knows something I don't.

eagle63,

Try visiting http://wa00.com/wiforums/ instead.

Can you also visit http://wiforums.net/mime.php (an XHTML-MP page which reports your device's accepted file formats)

Would you happen to be using WebPro 3.0?

If so, then there's little that can be done, since their browser does not report the appropriate WML or XHTML-MP headers.

If not, I'll let JFB know that he needs to update the wa00.com browser detection script to include XHTML devices.

Blazer is supposed to support (and abide by) WML and XHTML specifications, but I would not be surprised if it behaves in the same manner as WebPro.

scottb,

The WA00 wireless forum is neither solely WML nor solely XHTML-MP, it can output in either markup language.

Hopefully MS will 'fix' Pocket IE, or Opera will release their MS SmartPhone browser by the end of the year (this is also around the time when HowardForums will upgrade to WiForums 3.0)

On a side note, quite some time ago, HP released a patch for pocket internet explorer for certain Pocket PCs which allowed an end user to modify the browser accept-headers, effectively fixing the Pocket IE/IE developers' oversight.

Your i600 *may* have such an option in the browser menu option..

AnthroMatt,

The problem lies with certain browsers not following specifications/standards that are meant to allow a web/wap application to determine what file types and languages the phone can accept; IE/PocketIE, WebPro 3 (in regards to WML and XHTML) are prime examples of this.

Thanks for the information. I couldn't find anything like that in my browser settings, but I'll keep my eyes out for Opera or a possible fix from Microsoft.

cryogenic,

Do you have a digital camera on hand? If you do, would you mind taking and posting a photo of WA in WAP 2.0 mode running on your Treo 600?
