To the regulars here: I recently (yesterday) exchanged an email with Larry (Sprint dude extrodinaire) about why I prefer posting on WA. I mentioned that the caliber of posters here seems better than those found on alt.cellular.... boards. People on those boards readily degrade the threads into flaming whereas WA posters (for the most part) keep a professional demeaner. So why do you like WA? |

I gree with everything Kevin said. I've posted on several different boards, but after posting here on a regular basis, I tend to visit those other places less often. These boards are A LOT friendlier than most others (especially the alt.cellulars...). There's a pretty good unspoken rule that people here usually follow, and that "let's agree to disagree." We all get our shots in, but you're usually only two three posts away from getting the favor returned There's also a very good base of knowledge, and not just focused in one area. We have dedicated posters who know about what they post about and ask about what they don't. Also like the amount of users. Other message boards tend to get over crowded, and while I thoroughly enjoy watching the membership grow, and recommend this place to anyone inquiring about wireless information, I think posters here get a lot more attention then they would else where. Posts don't get lost in the noise. From being an anonymous poster for several weeks before actually joining, I can say to all the anonymous' out there...this a great place to post, and it's great to have a name on the Forums! People get to "know" you and where you're coming from....all around...it's just a lot of fun! Besides...when I talk about most of this stuff with my gfriend, she usually just nods and smiles She doesn't really care about 1X service and it's pricing plans or the growth of GSM as a global standard and it's evoltion to EDGE, and the new GAIT phones from ATT....you get the point! |

I post here, mainly because I like message boards better then newsgroups...also I like to help people with the "little" knoledge I have. I only hope for there forums to grow into a well known site for cell phone help and information....just like DSLReports is for broadband information (which is where I am at almost 24/7). I also like learning about how technology changes and grows which I learn here by people posting news articles they find and such.

Hi everyone, I to I'm glad to be apart of such a wonderful group of individuals, who actually take time to research, help and understand peoples problems. I wish that when I was new to the wireless world there was someone out there to help me, in my time of need. Besides where else I'm I going to talk about the things I like...?

This is a nice group, and it is growing as well. Part of its attraction is the small size and the respect that is paid to other posters. Some more people would be good, but they seem to be finding their way. This is much better than that old board that was here last year. I also find the howardforums.com to be pretty good as well - there are some technically oriented folks there. the alt.xxx groups are Usenet. It's the best and worst of the Internet. You can get an answer or help on most anything there, but you can get flamed to all he!! too I go to all three, and go by cheerioboy26 elsewhere.

I prefer this over alt. groups cause its a smaller more tight nite group and there is much less flaming on here and SPAM.

I came here because after deciding to leave ATT, I didn't know where else to go...the subscribers here were helpful & able to give me the feedback I needed. I also like how the site is broken down into regional boards. Many times what works on the East coast won't work in So. Cal. The regional boards gives us the chance to pinpoint people within our own areas & get the feedback we need. Jodi |

The signal-to-noise ratio here is much higher than other places (*cough*USENET*cough*). It's a smaller group than Howard Forums, and people are very kind to newbies.

I recently bit the bullet and went to howardforums yesterday after watching here for a day or so before registering, all no longer than 2 weeks or so. I could hardly navigate there. It seems like a lot of useful information, but it's too spread out. I was mostly just inundated with the number of posts from that day on each forum offered. Here, I, pretty quickly, get a solid answer to any/all of my questions, and already know a few people that I can really rely on for solid information. Especially since I'm essentially one of the newbies that you're referring to above. Also, I have to agree the breakdown is great. Really, Cingular Northeast is nothing like Cingular Cali, and I'm more concerned with everything going on here than everything going on with Cingular total. That's about it. P |

RIT - good point, but howards and Usenet is where the rumors and inside info is posted. anything like that posted on WA came from either one of those places. Also more hardcore users who can diagnose technical problems. That's not a slam against WA though. All the sites are good IMO

This forum is great for a few reasons, but the one that stands out in my mind is how close-nit everyone is. People respond to the topics you post and they respond with good answers. And it isn't days later that you get a response. Sometimes it's 10 minutes later which is probably the best thing about this forum. I also really like the layout of this forum compared to Howards...it's just so much easier to look at and take everything in. Matt has a good point about Howards, but if the info is gonna come this way then here's where I'll be when it gets here. |

I am rather new here, and I was wondering what the ratings, "Neophyte, Member, Senior Member" are based on. I imagine it is on number of posts. Perhaps I am wrong? If so what are they based on? |

Well, I like it here since I think cell phones are an interesting technology (duh..), and its such a nice environment to post. I have actually gotten to know people on this board, and learned information too. I post on the Trek BBS, which is a Star Trek board, but it has SO many people on it. I like the small close knit group where I can actually know the people. I remember one day not too long after I joined, there were 1234 members....look at it now! Though I realize most register and post 3 times and leave.

I agree that this is the best forum based website that there is for cellular. I have tried the others, but with those... I wont name names... they were mostly all pro this company just to darn complicated to post, read, and reply to messages. Im glad this website is here because without it, work would be one heck of alot more boring.

I like this forum because I think people actually READ the posts instead of screaming for codes and wanting to know how they can get free service from a stolen phone. People on here are a little more educated than that. Now, if people on here could just tell me why I have this strange obsession with cell phones....Nokia 51XX series in particular....

Because of the wealth of technical information on my phone. Also, because there are enough grammar and punctuation errors to keep me amused for hours on end.

Great site, people are very helpful. Keeps you in touch with all the wireless news going around. A lot of other forums are just a bunch of jibberish, never really explaning anything, more complaing than explaning. WA has helped me get a great service provider for the NYC Metro area, as well as a great phone to go along with the serivce. This is important, since you gotta be stuck in for that 1 yr contract. Thats why when you choose a cellular service company, pick wisely, and make sure to check WA

I agree with all your posts. I'm new to wireless advisor, been here less than a week! I have had cell phones for the last 6 years but I'm just now learning the technical side of the different services. I have learned so much from the forums that I have read here!! Looks like there are a lot of "insiders" that take time to post some of their knowledge. Thanks for all the info. Keep it coming!!

A question for the moderators: How did you become moderators and what does one have to do to become one? |

(Bonus geek points if you know what that's a quote from without thinking about it.) Au sérieux, though, moderation is an appointed position... when there is a need for a new moderator the existing moderators discuss it amongst themselves and then contact the user to see if he or she is interested.

I prefer WA because the information is easy to find, the members are quite helpful, and most people here seem to have a sense of humor as well. I like that. I especially agree with the people that have posted regarding the content on the site: it is useful information presented in a very accessible format. Not too many clowns on this site asking how to steal cell service, too (as others have mentioned).
