Two ways are available to me. The new Memphis Central Library building has coverage "holes" inside, that set my Nokia 6340i searching and finding the continuing TDMA coverage first. I don't notice the holes (and the modulation change) while my GAIT SIM is in my GSM-only NEC 525. The other way is by cross-country travel out of Cingular coverage. Traveling south out of Memphis brings me into the RSA MS-3 counties of Coahoma, Quitman, Panola, or Lafayette where there's no Cingular orange cellular, and just major route coverage by Cingular blue PCS for I-55 and US-51 (nearby). Cellular A-band is RCC Unicel, with TDMA (possibly adding or converting to GSM). Cellular B-band is Cellular South (Telepak) whose first digital is TDMA, but is well on the way to a CDMA convertion. Shizam76, from reading your messages over the months, I get the impression that you live in the Joliet, IL area. Head west toward the Peoria MSA. Once you reach Woodford and Tazewell counties, your cellular A&B carriers are USCC and Alltel. USCC, as you know, was TDMA and is nearly all CDMA now. If your 6340i works on TDMA or AMPS there, good! You'll know. Or go east into Indiana. All counties surrounding Gary's Lake County have cellular A&B by Centennial and Verizon. That's Newton, Jasper, Stark, and La Porte Counties. This is not as good a choice, because Centennial is former TDMA offering GSM in Lake Village (zipcode 46349) near the Illinois border. You'll learn if there's a GSM roaming agreement (or TDMA). Have I given you some ideas? COtech

Hi, how's everybody doing? Thanks for the welcome and i'm wirelessguy1 and i just joined, i hope somebody can answer my question about my LG cel. Recently i purchased a USB cable for my LG LX5450 cel to hook up to my pc to transfer images and i downloaded the Bitpim software but i only found all other LG phones on the list except for my phone, does that mean that Bitpim isn't compatible with the LG LX5450? Thanks. Quote:

Hello! I am Nishi. I am from India & shall be going to USA this fall for my studies. I was trying to findout about the cellphone service proveiders, my own cellphone compatibilty etc in the USA & found this forum & i must say that its a very friendly & helpful forum Rightnow, my first question is : Till now, I've found plans "cellphone + connection". Are there any plans available only for the connection i.e talktime? I have a Triband phone Nokia 6610i & i wanna know if i shud take it to USA or buy a Quad band phone & take it from here or shud i buy "cellphone + connection" in USA itself? which one wud b the best option? Cheers! Nishi |

It would be worth looking at both Cingular and at T-Mobile. Each provider is different, T-Mobile might be better for your current phone since T-Mobile is GSM 1900-only all across the US and your 6610i has that band. However, Cingular uses both GSM 850/1900 across the US so depending on where you're going to be studying. T-Mobile is also a hit with people since they have unlimited data plans for those who need mobile access to the Net.

Hello Nishi and welcome to Wireless advisor. You said you would be coming to the US to do your studies this fall. Were will you be going to school in the U.S.? When choosing a carrier/phone in th US the first and most valid question is coverage.

I've planned to get a new cellphone in USA itself. I had not written about the city where i'll b going bcoz i've not yet finalized a school. But the options are Minneapolis, Indianapolis & Dallas. If u can provide any feedback regarding which service provider gives better service & coverage in these particular cities, it wud b really nice. Cheers Nishi | ||

I don't use bitpim, but I would try searching the LG Forum like ShoresGuy mentioned. Usually from what I have read, when your phone isn't on there, that means it doesn't support the software, or if it does, then they might be in the process of updating the software to support your phone.
