Default Hello from Detroit, Michigan

Hi, I'm new to these forums. A friend directed me here when I had a question about cellular data networks. Some potential clients of mine live in a very rural area of Michigan, where traditional broadband internet options, like cable modem and DSL, are not available. I would like to know what it would take to convince the CDMA carriers in the area to upgrade the local tower to EV-DO? I've heard rumors of petitions working in the past, but I have no confirmation on this, nor any documented evidence. How many people would it take to pique the interest of SprintPCS and Verizon?

Thank you very much for your advice and input!

Mark

Welcome! What zipcode are they located in? Depends on how rural. Alltel has a lot of Michigan covered in EVDO rural and metro. But if you let me know the zip code I can look it up and see who would offer the best cellular internet service. I'm from Kalamazoo...

48625 is the Zip Code in question. It covers a fairly large area, from what I understand. I know that SprintPCS provides voice and 1xRTT data there, because my handset works fine there. People with Verizon Wireless service also are on the Verizon network there. I honestly hadn't thought about Alltel.

The zip looks like it has limited EVDO coverage. It is affiliate coverage, but it looks like they are just starting to roll out EVDO there.

Yep there is alltel there and they have evdo. Check them out. They will eventually become verizon customers, but can lock in a better rate and plan by signing up through alltel...
