I was talking with a TMobile CS rep yesterday and he mentioned that MAYBE by the end of the year, there will be an adapter out you can hook into your DSL/Cable internet connection for cell service at home. This would almost be like a mini cell site right at your house. Anyone ever hear of this? It is a neat concept, and would help me as I get no service at home with my TMobile work phone. A mini site hooked into my DSL (Soon to be cable) would be great. |

Yes, I have heard about it. November, maybe. I don't know any details of the service, or devices, etc. There will also be some wort of GSM/GPRS/WiFi combination too.

Sounds exciting to me! I have good coverage at my place, but it still would be pretty neat!

Really, you would be hosting a cell site. I'm sure there is a range.....and people outside could probably use your site as well. I wonder how that would work.... | |

Here's a link to the technology consortium working on GSM/WiFi. TM and Cingular are members, and BT says they will have a device out by the end of the year. http://www.umatechnology.org/

Out of curiousity, would this replace/include/parallel Vonage VoIP service? I have Vonage at the moment, but if T-Mobile makes this available I'd rather save the money and go with them! Aint technology grand!!!

I think somehow you T-Mobile call would hop onto your home network, so I guess Vonage would not be needed - you would need some sort of braodband Internet, but no VOIP.
