Default 911 Call Failed Multiple Times

Well this is the second time I have had a failed 911 call on T-Mobile, first time was trying to get through to 911 after a DUI, call would not go through on SOS. I had to get my Sprint phone. Multiple service issues everywhere, service tickets open.

Anyways, today I was on the way back to AL from my Condo in Panama City beach, on Highway 79-FL right by a road called Williams RD in Holmes County FL, saw a severe rollover wreck with a Town Car and into a tree, people must have died. Tried calling 911 since nobody there had a cell phone, my phone was cutting between SOS and T-Mobile and my call would not go through, it kept saying Radio Path Unavailable, said that on my friends T-Mobile phone. AT&T was dead there, So I had to turn on my Sprint phone and got great signal on Alltel and made the 911 call. But this is ridiculous.

Where should I make a big stink about this? I want this to be known because T-Mobile is doing nothing about it. I want out of my contract. No service at home, the friggin idiots say USE AT HOME. Well Guess what, UMA won't work with my 3G aircard at my main home.

What should I do, no coverage anywhere around here. It seems as if it's getting worse.

I think the best solution is just carry a deactivated phone from each carrier... There does not need to have active service on the phone to call 911. If your phone keeps switching networks there may be nothing TMO can do about it. It may be your handset as well. Late model used phones can often be found for free or low cost.

I'm curious whether a 911 call will use any network available? Theoretically, shouldn't ANY GSM phone behave the same, and same with CDMA?

For instance, shouldn't the AT&T phone have tried to use the T-Mobile network for a 911 call? Was the Sprint phone roaming on Alltel as standard roaming, or just because it was a 911 call?

it should use any available compatible network, but it didn't seem to do that in this case.

That's what I thought/hoped for. So for emergency purposes, I'm fine carrying my active GSM and a CDMA (previously-VZW) phone?

So you can carry around THREE phones for emergency purposes?

It'll be a long time (forever in cell phone years) before you can get an LTE signal where you can't get a CDMA or GSM signal.

I think what he was getting at was that both CDMA and GSM carriers are migrating towards LTE. The early handsets will most likely be hybrids, but I doubt there will be a GSM/CDMA/UMTS/LTE handset ever... Most likely you will have a GSM/LTE or a CDMA/LTE handset.

It sounds like your solution would be to just use your sprint phone instead of even having a phone with tmobile

I think the transition will be quicker then most, once the infrastructure is in, its to the advantage to them to end support for cdma, and gsm.

Sounds like you were in a complete coverage gap. If there is no coverage what so-ever, then there is no chance of a 911 call going through any better than a regular one.

I'd get worried if I could make a regular call but not a 911 call....
