So I ordered the G1 today... First, I called a few local stores here in Northern Virginia. They all said that they did not receive any and that the only stores that got them were in Baltimore. A rep at one store told me that they would not have any in until the 10th of November. So I called up T-Mobile to chat with a sales rep about the availability of the G1. I called in several times just to make sure they had it in stock. Three reps told me that they were in stock and would ship out tomorrow, one rep said that the phone was on backorder and that, surprise, I wouldn't see one until Nov 10th. I figured what the heck, I'll get in line. So I placed an order online. After completing the necessary stuff, I was given an "order incomplete, please call 1-866... for more info. When I called the rep said that they were currently on backorder and that the phones would hopefully be shipped in 7-10 business days. She said that T-Mobile only started with 6,000 devices and that they almost instantly sold out. So at this point I'm just waiting. I'll keep you all updated. |

There were a lot more devices than that, although backorders are common. I heard there were at least a couple hundred thousand for the preorder, and most stores that offered them for sale got a few dozen as well, so that's another 20-30,000 I guess. I do know many stores did sell out, but I don't know how many were available via t-mobile.com. I saw that the DC turn-on may be mid-November, instead of late November, maybe that's why they will get them in stock on the 10th.

Yea, I found it a little hard to believe that they "only had a few thousand"... I called in today to check the order status. The rep told me that the black phones were in stock and that they would be shipped out on schedule... I'm still a little skeptical but I'm hoping that tracking info shows up tonight. As for the 3G in DC, is there any information about how far the footprint will be extending out into VA? I think it would be a huge mistake if T-Mobile didn't extend the coverage out to the Dulles area. |

In a head to head comparison with my Blackberry (running on evdo - verizon), the G1 (running on edge) has absolutely blown it away on browsing speeds and quality. I'm excited to see how it'll work on 3G. I'll write up something after I've had the phone for a week or so. | |

I am interested in your review of the G1, I haven't gotten one yet but am planning on it how do you like it? I also am in a non 3G area.

I know someone who has it in an EDGE area - says it works pretty well. GPS eats up battery life, though. I've had it in my hands for a few minutes and it sure looks slick.
