Default T- Mobile Phone not working-Need options as I do not want to renew the contract

One of the phones (Motorola Razor) that I use recently stopped functioning. I have a Family Plan and the contract ends in March 2009 only. The gurantee period for the Motorola phone is already over too. When I contacted the T-Mobile Customer Helpdesk, the rep gave two options:

1. Get a free OR a discount priced phone from t-mobile; but need to renew the contract.
2. Buy a new phone with the retailer price with no contractual obligations.

I am thinking of switching from t-mobile anyways and currently in dilemma due to this situation. I do not want to buy a new phone by renewing the contract; or doesn't think ideal to buy a new phone with the huge retailer price.

Would really appreciate alternative suggestions from anybody.

Hello and welcome to WA.

How about getting an unlocked GSM phone or a T-Mobile phone from E-Bay? There is usually quite a few for sale and some "oldies but goodies" that TM has since discontinued.

Question Re: T- Mobile Phone not working-Need options as I do not want to renew the contract

I have the same problem with a Razor V-3 POS (I have had it for about 18 months).

The reception has always been lousy, but now my calls are constantly dropped, and I don't receive calls. I will have 3 bars, and the phone doesn't ring, but I will get a voice mail notification. And sometimes I have 2 or 3 bars and the calls are constantly failing. (the bars go away by the time I finish dialing).

I didn't want to buy another phone, but I have 6 months left on my contract. Which phone models are known to have the best reception\coverage? I am in Northern California.

Or, is there something I can do to get better reception on this phone?

Thank you

It is still the same answer.
Go to Ebay, search unlocked GSM phones.
If you ask T-Mobile reps, they usually say to get a Nokia.
You may be able to get a locked tmo phone for less.
I have bought phones that way, it works.

Or buy a prepaid TMobile phone at WalMart, Best Buy, or even the TMobile site... The big box stores usually have the Nokia 2610 for about $30. The TMobile prepaid site has phones starting from $20. Just stick your SIM into the new phone and keep the SIM for an emergency.

I have had good experiences with my previous Nokias (6010, 6030). My Motorola V195s is an ok phone when it comes to reception. I tried the RIZR and that was the worst phone I have had for reception.
