Hi all, I'm a new T-Mobile user, having come over from Verizon. After a LOT of shopping I decided on the T-Mobile Dash. In looking at independent reviews, I saw a number of references to the difficulty of operating the touch pad volume controls on this phone. Indeed I experienced the same issues myself. It was one of two glaring problems with an otherwise pretty darned good phone (the other problem is battery life). BUT... I think I have solved the problem with using the Volume Control-at least it works for me now every time. What I think has been happening is this: Most of us are used to rocker-type volume controls that provide tactile feedback when depressed. When we want to push the volume up we press the "up" side of the rocker and the "down" side for the reverse. As such, I think many of us may be trying to handle the Dash's touch pad in the same manner. The "secret" is this: If you want to raise the volume, start with your thumb (or finger) below the "volume down" pad and slide all the way up over the "volume up" pad. Do the reverse to lower the volume (start with your finger above the volume up pad and slide all the way down over it and the volume down pad). Since I discovered this trick I have no problem whatsoever adjusting the volume with the touch pad. Maybe T-Mobile should mention this in the literature for the phone. It certainly could save a lot of user frustration and greatly enhance the experience of using the phone. Good luck and please do let me know if this tip helps! |

Hey tmobileman, I'm glad to hear it works for you. I had read different things about folks disabling the pad or making sensitivity adjustments and such. I never got around to trying any of that, but now it looks like I don't have to. BTW, I'm really enjoying this phone as well. It's my first smart phone. It may sound a bit weird but one of the reasons I switched from Verizon is that many of their phones I was really interested didn't come with any free full games at all. You had to pay for everything. I didn't want much, maybe just a couple of games and I could always decide later if I wanted to buy more. But to be so bloody cheap about it right out of the box, it rankled me. My Dash comes with Solitaire and Bubble Breaker, enough for a start, and I'm happy. Also, when I was shopping for a new phone I was looking at the Blackberry Curve as well. Blackberry manufactures the phone as a quad band and it is offered in that form from T-Mobile. Verizon's Curve is only a dual band, AND if I am not mistaken, Verizon phones don't have SIM cards (right?). Yuck! Now with my Dash I'm really feeling like I made the right move. I only hope (as I have had little experience yet) that overall network coverage is good as I travel around and use the service. Time will tell... |

Usually not, usually the white screen is the beginning of the end doesn't happen that often but there is something wrong with your dash, if it is under warranty and doesn't have any liquid or physical damage call and have it troubleshot and exchange it, I am using a refurb from my first one and have been using the refurb for a year and a half now so don't worry the refurb should be just fine. | |
