Canceling Tmobile family plan

Could someone please help me? I am on a family plan with my parents, they are the main line and I'm the additional line. I want to cancel my account because I don't get service at my house or work, and move my number to ATT. I would like to avoid the ETF or get it reduced as much as possible. I also just read that Tmobile is increasing their texting rates, but I have the 400 messages per month plan, but my parent's line does not. I read that because of the increase in text rates, we can cancel, but can I with the messaging plan? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

no you cannot unless in the past three billing cycles you have had overage on your sms plan, if you have not the etf would stick, here is one option, try the unlimited hotspot calling upgrade your phone if you have broadband at your new place this is a solution, if you don't want to try that even though it will give you service at your new address then port your number and reactivate the line until the end of the contract with a new number from tmobile, you will be charged the etf when it ports but then you call up (as long as it is within 90 days from the port out date, preferrably within 60 days to use same sim.) and reactivate the line same sim and phone you have now for 9.99 per month on your parents family plan and you pay that out leaving the line active until the end of the contract depending on how long you have left i.e. more than 20 months this is cheaper than paying the etf. The other option you have is to do the Change of responsibility for your number putting your line in your own name and attempting to get an etf waiver for moving to an area with little or no coverage, I recommend the first two first and the third as a last resort as it is more time consuming for you. If you port your number don't call tmobile call att give them the acct number this is on your bill or mytmobile acct. your line will automatically cancel within 24 hours call back within 60 days to use same sim to reactivate with a new number after 60 days you need a new sim for 19.99.

Is it true that once you sign up for a certain amount of minutes you can never reduce it unless you extend your contract? ( for tmobile)
I only use half of my minutes and they wont let me decrease monthy minute contract

If you make plan changes through the My T-Mobile site, there should be price plans that don't require a contract extension. If they don't show up, it could be due to the area you have service in.

I have several non-contract renewing plans available to me, including a $29.99, 300 minute plan. There's even a Government/Business plan for $19.99, with only 60 anytime minutes, available to me as well. I don't have anything special on my account to get these plans, they're just there.

So to answer you question, it is not true (unless there's something else going on with your account). Unless your original agreement with them doesn't allow for changes (until after a period of time maybe?), you may be stuck, but I can't imagine T-Mobile having such a lock on plans like this.

The answer to your question is no you can change your plan at anytime, you just can't change to any plan here is what you can have with no contract:

If you're on family plan and you don't want to extend you can have the following plans 69.99 800 with unlimited weekends and mob2mob, add nights if you want for 5.00 per line (contracted plan includes nights and 200 more min) for 99.99 1600 again with weekends and mob2mob add nights for same charge, (contracted plan is 2000 with nights free) and for 129.99 2500 min weekends and mob2mob (contracted is 3000 nights included).
If you're on an individual plans the non contracted plans are as follows: 29.99 300 with weekends, 39.99 600 with weekends (nights 4.99) 59.99 1000 min with weekends (nights 4.99), 99.99 2500 with weekends (nights 4.99).
Guess the bigger question at least from the company is why wouldn't you renew your contract and if your contract is already longer than one year from now you don't have to extend your contract for most plans. Oh nevermind about the question about the contract I see your username now. What plan do you have?
