Hi everyone, I know my situation has already been discussed ad nauseum - as I mentioned before, there was a happy ending to the story with my sister-in-law getting a Samsung Blast. Everything is working fine so far, I'm helping her set it all up... the only issue I'm running into is the emaiil notification alert. The option is selected on the login screen (she's using a gmail account) - but we've noticed that she's not getting any sort of notification when a new email comes in. She has to go into her inbox (on the phone) and refresh - then she gets the alert (not very helpful). Is there some way to automate this notification? Or is there just a long delay between a new email coming in and a notification alert going off on the the phone that we're not taking into account? Also, Ive searched through the menus... this doesn't seem to be a setting issue, as far as I can tell. Any help would be appreciated - thanks again. |

Have her try setting up the notification alert through her mytmobile acct, if that doesn't help then I am sorry there may not be the option, the blast is the only phone that we service that works this way, the myemail feature works with existing sms package unlike most phones, I believe though if she has the 5.99 tzones feature the alerts can be set up for real time.

Yeah, setting her email up on mytmobile crossed my mind... I tried getting there after logging into the account, but there must have been some sort of glitch (at least temporarily); after processing for awhile, it would just send me back to the login page and say "login failed," even though I had already been logged in. So, after a few times of trying that, I gave up. BUT - we found another solution. On my own phone, I use a third party java app called flurry... it's associated with a networking website where you can set up access to your email - and it also sends you text message alerts. So, we just signed her up on the site and set up new email alerts... and it works! She gets a notification, and then she just goes to her Blast inbox and refreshes. Maybe not the most elegant solution, but at least it works. At least this way she has access to her email without having to add a data plan (to keep costs down as much as possible). Hope she doesn't feel bad that most of her friends are getting Blackberrys when they arrive in the States. |

Seabass...I have a Blast and get e-mail notifications through AOL. 1st, do you have the "New Mail Notification" box checked? Even though you've done everything correctly, sometimes my e-mail's update on their own and I received automatic notification...and a few rare times I won't. Sometimes it depends on which area I'm in. I live out in the suburbs now, and noticed I don't receive the auto notifications as often as I used to. Then there are times I get the new e-mail notifications, but the e-mails themselves won't load, so the system has it's quirks. Very large e-mail's can be a problem. Otherwise, it should work fairly well. Contact a T-Mobile tech if you continue to have issues. Good luck! Chris

Thanks for the additional suggestions. There doesn't appear to be an option to set refresh "intervals" for email notification. My wife has a Nokia E65 where we were able to set something like that up (it checks every half-hour for new messages), but nothing like that for the Blast, as far as I can tell. And yes, the "New Mail Notification" is checked... but so far I haven't seen a single (non-text msg) notification come through. I know the Blast has had issues with Gmail in the past; maybe this is just something there's no solution for. Not to worry, the text message notifications from flurry are working just fine. The only "problem" we have at this point is that we're probably going to need to bump her up to the 1000 msg plan to accommodate all the notifications (and email access). But hey, I'm not the one who's going to be paying her cell phone bill. At least, I don't think I am. |
