Up until yesterday I've been very satisfied with my Shadow. However, that all changed when I realized I couldn't send email anymore. TMo stated that my account had been "flagged by their system" and that basically I was sol. .TMo said to contact my isp as it was there fault. My email address ends with swbell.net. Swbell/ATT informs me that they don't have any blocks set up. Unofficially ATT stated that the problem was that TMo doesn't realize how many customers use their service and that the TMo system isn't strong enough to handle the volume. Thus TMo has "flagged" accts. using ATT not to work under the guises that it's an overloaded spam issue. What gives? Anyone know of a work around. I've had the same email address for over 10 years. TMo suggested I set up an acct. with GMail or similar. That sounds ridiculous. What is really going on? |

If you are on the T-Mobile network, my first question would be to ask why you are using an AT&T swbell.net address? You should be using whatever domain T-Mobile has set up for those devices, not an AT&T-controlled domain. Although I do not work for T-Mobile, my first guess would be that their system caught the swbell.net address being used on the T-Mobile network and they flagged your account. That could possibly be a TOS (terms of service) violation and they turned it off as a result.

Thanks for the input but I'm not sure I'm following your logic. I've never really read every line of my agreement but I'd be surprised if that was truly a TOS violation. On the Shadow it has, built in to it, the option of setting up Yahoo, AOL, Hotmail, GMail and others. Don't those names have to go through another server and end with which ever appropriate .com name? Aren't they considered web based? ATT/Yahoo/SWBell, having gone through consolidations, has been my internet provider for 10 years. No one from TMo has ever suggested (until today) that I had to change my type of email account in case that it might get flagged and then not be able to have service. Plus, why would they let me receive my mail and not just let me send it out. As I said earlier, everything has worked flawlessly since I switched over to the Shadow. I've spoken with three different people at TMo so far regarding this problem and have received 3 different ideas. I'm convinced it is their network problem and that the level I'm speaking with can't see the problem. I'll just have to bark a little louder. However, as tmobileman suggested, I requested to contact a "tier 2 data support" person and was told that position didn't exist. (Did the person I was speaking with not have a manager? I can't believe I was speaking with the most senior guru of engineering.) Maybe he'll come back with a solution! I hope so.

I have always had a problem with my blackberry's E-mail with T-mobile. I am not saying that T-mobile is a bad company, because there NOT. It's just that there not that good in FL, as in other states.

You should be using the T-Mobile specified domain for the Shadow's e-mail as well as go through T-Mobile's servers, if the Shadow uses a specific mail application. I'm not an expert on those devices as I've never used one.

OK, I'll call TMo and ask them to walk me through setting up an account as you've suggested. But for the life of me I can't understand why everything was working perfectly well and then the sending only option has been corruptetd. I sort of think it might be with the testing of their new 3G network. During today all of a sudden, after another call to TMo, we set up my account as had been in the past and it worked. Now, 5 hours later, I'm experiencing the same problem. Something isn't working properly within their network. If I could only speak to someone with whom I had compete confidence in. I'll keep on trying. Thanks! |

ok did some checking today, could not find any issues KNOWN on the network with the shadow and email...thought of the TOS violation as well, but could not find any information as to this being a violation, so while I was waiting between calls, I called our tier 2 technical dept, (which by the way is still in existence...that was the best answer I have seen all day...not for you but funny for me), the rep I spoke with said the only known problem with the shadow, and this is the same with all devices is if you have recently swapped your sim which I assumed was not the case, he did advised to uninstall the email acct, and try reinstalling which I assumed was the first step you took, he said if that doesn't work, than there may be some compatibility issues which are recent but not fully known yet...so I don't know for sure be diligent my friend call tomorrow, during the earlier hours (less hold times) and ask for PDA support, the issue can be escalated from there, sorry I don't have a quick fix for you sounds a little more complex than the standard known issues with the Win Mobile devices right now...I don't think it is your device either, it is either network related or slight possibility that there is something going on from your ISP...unlikely but possible...the testing of the 3G shouldn't interfere with your existing data service however, anything is possible...oh and by the way...3G with tmobile...WOO HOO coming soon got an update today third quarter should be rolling supposed to faster than anybody...we'll see.
