Two questions about regional plans..... 1. If I am on the border of the state and also on the border of regional service area, how am I supposed to know if the tower I am connected to is on the 'right' side of the border, i.e. will I be charged for roaming? 2. Is roaming ability on other networks still active? thanks |

With my phone, while travelling into border areas, the SID or NID or both will begin to change, and in field test mode you can view the PN numbers (matching towers) currently serving the call. Not sure about GSM / T-Mobile's rules, but I don't think there is any way to know if it's ok to make a call in a border area, other than an indicator on the phone. Usually it's supposed to be "calls originating in your service area" because that's how the calls are billed. When you've long gone into another state, and you finally hang up, thats when you'd have to avoid using the phone.

Not sure about GSM / T-Mobile's rules, but I don't think there is any way to know if it's ok to make a call in a border area, other than an indicator on the phone. calls are billed from originating tower for duration, only way to tell is indicator on phone sorry about that, but for now is best process in place you might think of going with a nationwide plan if your traveling a lot more than usual or be prepared to be charged believe domestic roaming on the one regional plan is .49 per min, and for LD is either .10 or .20 depending on how old your plan is |

| there will be no indicator on the phone. because u still use your native towers, just the billing system counts it as "roaming" when it really is not roaming.. therefore no indicator is shown.

| I see what you are saying, yes on the regional plan it is classified as roaming because the plan is regional so the phone will still say tmobile on it but you are required to know your calling area, for the most part in my experience for close to the border situations if you do get roaming charges and it is the first time tmobile will work with you one time but after that they will document that you were educated about your local calling area and any charges after the intial time it happens will be your responsibility. Sorry for the confusion about the indicator, it will only change if you are pulling signal from another carriers tower, which if you are within your local calling area on the 49.99 3000 regional plan will not be considered roaming.

lol. that whole thing is so weird. using ATT within local calling area - roaming on phone, not roaming on billing system using t-mobile outside local calling area - not roaming on phone, roaming on billing system... national plan is probably better option thanks for your replies |
