Hi all, My girlfriend has had T-mobile for a long time. She has been out of contract for nearly two years now. She wants a new samsung T629 phone (for free!!) and is willing to extend her contract for 2 years. The T-mobile website advertises a price of $ 149 for this phone with contract extension. 1) Is there a way to bargain with customer service? 2) Can she just activate a new line and cancel the old one? 3) I recently (about 45 days back) switched from Sprint to T-mobile. When I try to add a new line from the T-mobile website, I get a message saying that the nature of my account does not allow this. Is there a way for me to activate a new line for her and cancel her old line? Thanks in advance for your suggestions. |

You can bargain with customer service if you tell them you're going to cancel. You can also try a local store and see if the manager can help you. She can activate a new line and cancel the old one, but she can't keep her phone number. The add-a-line feature on the T-Mobile website is brand new. I know it doesn't work for family plans, even though I think it's an option. I haven't heard of anyone using this feature yet, but it's been available for less than a week.

Matt, Thanks for the suggestion. If she activates a new line and cancels the old one (she does not care about keeping her phone number), will T-mobile consider her a new customer and give all the rebates? Also, should she wait for a certain amount of time before she cancels the old line. Thanks again in advance. |

I don't know all of their policies. They do have a 90 day rule of some sort, and it may be realted to SS number (since that's what they use for credit) as opposed to an account, but I don't know. I would suggest checking http://www.tmobilerebates.com and carefully reading the rebate terms and conditions first. I'm showing an upgrade price of $99.99 for a two-year on mytmobile for qualifying customers on plans $39.99 or higher.
