Default Using my phone as a modem

I'd like to be able to occasionally use my phone as a modem when I'm away from a network jack. I have a Motorola v360, and I'm pretty sure that I have a good grasp of the hardware/software issues, but I'm not sure about the T-Mobile side of things.

I currently have the $39.95/600 minutes plan with no extra options, and I'm not sure what else I'd need to sign up for to make this happen. I see that T-Mobile offers something called T-MobileWeb as a $5.99 addon to my service, but will that do what I need? I don't want to blow my minutes on net access, though I realize I could probably do that. I'd appreciate any insight others might have.

I also have the $39.99 plan with unl N&W + 600 minutes. As far as I know the T-Mobile Web is for WAP phone browsing only. I have the add-on $19.99 Unlimited Internet plan which allows me to tether my phone via USB cable to my laptop and use DUN to surf the web. I've had this plan with my Moto T722i for close to 3 yrs now and it may no longer be available. It's GPRS and rather slow, but OK for $20 and the T-Mobile Web is included with my plan.
