Default Sidekick II - Is it worth it?

Hi, Im thinking about getting the Sidekick II with just the Data Plan mainly for messaging and mobile web access. Any problems or better alternatives I should know about before purchasing?

My sister-in-law uses the SK2 add-on data plan for her device on a family plan. She works with the deaf, so the device is very popular with them for comunication. She likes it as far as I know, although I don't know how much she uses the web.

1. Browsing became faster as OTA 2.3 was fielded. Once you have 2.3 loaded, it's even faster.

2. You cannot believe how quickly the SKII will become part of your life. Three POP accounts, unlimited email AND Texts, integrated address book, both Yahoo IM AND AOL IM.

3. You can access the functions of the SKII while on a call as long as they don't require GPRS during a call ie browsing, email. So you can look at received emails during a call, check addresses, send texts.

4. Occasionally, Danger (which markets the Hiptop device to T0-Mobile who later resells it as the SidekickII AND runs the backend proxy/email servers) seems to lose it's mind and screw up magnificently. In 2004, we have 3 major outages, one lasting 6 days. However, since July/Aug, Danger has tightened up it's game and seems to have found out how to run it's network.

5. If customizing your device is important. Stop now. YOU CANNOT ADD Ringtones OR wallpaper to the device. You will never be able to add ringtones or wallpaper. Danger will never open the device to users. T-Mobile does not allow you to add these things because it's a revenue generating device for them. So before you cause yourself a LOT of heartache over what you can't do, think about what you want.

6. Sidekick's don't support corporate enterprise email. If you need that functionality, get a crackleberry.

7. If what you are looking for is a "do it all" device that works extremely well AND has the BEST keyboard on a mobile device, then buy one and I'm pretty sure you'll be happy with it.
