Angry How to unlock a RAZR from Tmobile

Does anyone know how i would go about unlocking a RAZR from T-Mobile?

If i can get the thing unlocked, would it be that hard to configure it to use on Cingulars MEdia Net,etc?

If i called cingular would they give the unlock code? I heard at one point all the Razrs were unlocked, but that may have been just when it was first realeased.

Thanks

Sorry, I'm not really good with unlocked/gsm phones, but if anyone else reads this.. what does the "DCS" in Bellsouth Mobility mean?? My dad, living in Knoxville, bundles his services by having Cingular through Bellsouth and his phone displays "Welcome to Bellsouth Mobility DCS" when it starts up, and then on the main screen the phone displays "Cingular" But yea whats the DCS Mean?

DCS = Digital Communicaton Services

Bellsouth Mobility DCS was a PCS operator.

Oh, ok. Thanks for answering a newbie question from a non-newbie user .. lol. I kinda thought that the CS was the same in both of them, but I didn't know what the D was. Thanks again...

Yeah, DCS debuted here in knoxville and select parts of East Tennessee (as well as NC/SC i think) with the '96 olympics... when bellsoth was starting there TDMA network around atlanta (called Bellsouth mobility (without the DCS name).

Just some random FYI. SO if you call cingular you can tell them you are in the DCS market.. especially if they start to say your market was TDMA like most were (because its always been GSM here).

you really have to be sure to know the right password
since you are only allowed 3 tries.
After 3 wrong tries it will be unuseable.
it's better to let those who do this for a living
do it.

There are places that will unlock phones for a fee. Try and "Google it" to see if there is a place near you that can unlock your phone. Use caution, though. Otherwise you would have to get the code from T-Mobile, but since you are not a customer of theirs, I don't think they will do it. Cingular can't give you an unlock code for a T-Mobile locked phone. You can try Motorola, but I'm not sure if they can do it.

Once you get the phone unlocked, it shouldn't be too hard to get the Cingular MediaNet settings configured. As for RAZR's being unlocked originally, all Cingular phones had been unlocked prior to the merger. Late last year they started locking everything. As for T-Mobile, their phones have always been locked.

Unlocking for a fee is the way to go. Silver razrs can be unlocked with a code based on the imei. Black razrs are more complicated. I had to send mine in because the code didnt work. I overnighted it to a guy in Wash. state and he had it back to be in about 3 days.
Unless you know someone who has a TMo account, then it can be requested from them.
