No you dont need a data plan AFAIK. But to get the mail in rebate you need to have a data plan.

according to the website it requires a simply everything plan however i am hoping that since sero is a non advertised special plan maybe they will allow it

when u sign up for sero do they give u a chance to order phone at the same time at same price as new customers?
