In a way it really always has been for anybody who's ever looked into it and tried to get it. Maybe they found out they could still make a profit on it and are trying to clear out the stores a little for holiday season???

Even though I think this is an awesome promo and I will highly suggest it to anyone asking me for advice, does this mean that Sprint really is hurting? I mean where do they make money with these plans?

They wouldn't be offering it if it wasn't profitable. Loss leaders don't work in cellular like they do in Supermarkets and Electronics stores

I believe TelecomJunkie hit the nail on the head. Other than people talking about SERO being a good deal, I've never heard anybody claim who might know that SERO couldn't generate a profit. If it didn't, Sprint would have been smart enough to change what was offered on SERO when they saw how many people were taking advantage of it that couldn't have been just friends/family of employees. For somebody that doesn't burn up the night minutes or roam a lot, Sprint ought to be able to generate a decent profit off of $30/month.

I also believe that saying Sprint/Nextel is hurting greatly exaggerates the demise of Sprint. It's true they've had a couple quarters where they've not done great in terms of new subscribers, but overall, it's a company that's still built for the long-haul and profitable. They've still got over 50 million customers and are getting twice as many new subscribers as Alltel per quarter, which should still lead to them being a very profitable company with any kind of decent leadership. If T-Mobile can operate on 23 million customers and Alltel on 11 million and USCC on 6 million, Sprint shouldn't be having devastating problems with the size their customer base even by operating 2 networks. If anything, SERO seems like Sprint's way of countering Verizon's reliability claim by offering a lot more in a plan than Verizon. I just think there's a lot of over-reacting to Sprint's current situation because I've heard many comments about them hurting, but I just don't see it being as bad as what's led on.

I have been though the merger of several high-tech companies and you cannot reasonably expect reap the benefits of such a merger for several years. It doesn't happen overnight. It is difficult to blend two technologies and is even much more difficult if the technologies are incompatible. Most folks that do not work a technology industry have difficulty comprehending this simple fact.

Just curious, Sprint SERO's website states, Off-Network Roaming not included, so I'm assuming with SERO you're locked to their native network only, Am I correct in this assumption?

Talking about how they can offer this and still make money:

I'm an avid wireless user, but I my usage tends to be quite a few short phone calls. I average 233 minutes per month. I also use data casually, but spend most of my time (home and work) where high speed internet is readily available. So even though I do use data, I would not say I'm a heavy user.

I have two 500 minute SERO plans (one for me, one for my wife). My wife has many months with literally zero minutes used, but I'm happy to pay for her phone just so she has it when she needs it. If we travel, she will use it, but even then I'd say her average monthly usage is less than 20 total minutes.

So anyway, Sprint probably does make some money even off of the SERO plan depending on how heavily its used. Verizon charged me even more money for the limited services I use, so it made sense to me to switch to Sprint.

Anyway, there may be a bunch of folks not optimizing their every minute which explains how even SERO can be a money maker.

-Dan

PS: For the number of minutes I use, and the data I use, I doubt Sprint makes money on me, however, my wifes line virtually never gets used, so they do get something out of the deal.

Oh I figured it out. You're not in a real Sprint market. It's run by an affiliate called IPCS. Affiliates are different than Sprint and can do whatever they want to do. Sprint corporate markets which make up over 90% of the network give free roaming with SERO plans.

I already have a business plan because I work at a University. Sprint glady changed me over to the SERO plan with no problem. I went from 200 anytime minutes to 500 for the same price.... Plus I get Vision and mobile to mobile. What a great deal! Thanks Sprint!

I just stumbled across this thread while searching for a solution to my problem here:

http://forums.wirelessadvisor.com/ne...ightmares.html

Any help with that would be appreciated. Anyway, I tried the "openaccess@sprint.com" email mentioned above, and it seems to still have "open access". Check it out.
