Question PPC 6700 A2DP Upgrade

PPC 6700 Experts.

I have a dilemma. I purchased a Bluetooth headset (X5 Stereo Bluetooth Headset by Blue Ant) with the understanding that my PPC 6700 had the A2DP profile. I have since learned that I do not have that feature. I was told however that I can manually update the BT profile to include A2DP. I have searched hyperspace and found several ways of doing this. But they require that I unlock the phone & edit the registry. I am willing to try this if someone can take me through the steps using dummy language. Any takers?

Thanks goes to Wideawake over at ppcgeeks for the simple instructions.

Quote:
Making A2DP work on your PPC-6700 is very simple. All you have to have are the file attached below, your PPC-6700, and a A2DP compatible headset.

1. Download the attached .zip file on your ppc. Either directly or activsync it over. And extract files. NOTE: if you have the new ROM, if not your gonna have to activsync all the files over after extracted on your desktop.

2. Copy Avrcp_MPplugin.dll, bta2dp.dll, & sbc.dll to windows directory on phone.

3. Install the Tornado_A2DP.CAB and then install the Tor_A2DP_cert.CAB

4. Soft reset the device.

5. Pair your headset with the phone, making sure you select the set as wireless stereo option, and your DONE!

That simple now you can listen to your favorite music with stereo quality!
I will mention that the BT on the PPC/VX6700 isn't very good. YMMV with this hack. I had two 6700s, and couldn't get this to work, while countless other had little to no difficulties getting working.

Sorry to be daff, but where do you install the xxx.cab files? On the mobile device? If so, where?

Hi, ccrandall, to WA!

With cab (an .exe file for your PPC) file the best thing to do is move the cab to your device using ActiveSync, and put it any where you want (I use my storage card). Then you need to run File explore to find them. Once you do, they will install on to your device.

Yep, .Cab files are Cabinet files, when they are made for a PDA then Windows mobile treats them like executable files and installs them. Good rule of thumb is, cab is on the pda, exe is on the pc. Oh yeah and careful about whether you move it or copy it over, when you install a CAB file, the file is destroyed when you install it so if you didn't copy it just moved it over then you lose your copy.

Does this possibly work with the Treo 700wx? If not, is there A2DP upgrade or software available?

It's quite probable that the profile will work with the Bluetooth stack on the Treo since (as far as I know) both use the same basic Microsoft Bluetooth Stack. Someone please confirm or debunk me on this matter.

No, this hack will not work on the 700wx. And their is no upgade or software available right now to get it working. hannip over at XDA-Developers & TC as been trying to get it to work with no success. Their is a new AKU 3.X ROM out with A2DP that hannip is playing with which may give us some hope.

Thanks for debunking me budney. Although I'd say there should still be a way to add that profile on a treo, just a matter of what to do. Love xda for that, they just don't stop till they get it.

Hopefully Treo will put an update out for it. One of the things that makes the WM5 Treos different, is that the bluetooth is tied directly to the cellular radio.

Unhappy Re: PPC 6700 A2DP Upgrade

That is too bad!!! I gave up a 6700 for Treo and other than this issue, I love my Treo!!! If you hear of something, please post. Just bought a bluetooth headset for iPod and thought for sure this would work on my Treo.

Thumbs up Re: PPC 6700 A2DP Upgrade

BIG NEWS!!! Ok, I just got a set of iMuffs and hooked them up with my iPod and they worked great...so you say big deal, huh???? Just for the heck of it I tried to pair the bluetooth headset with my TREO 700 WX and it WORKED!!! WooHoo I don't know if Sprint did some type of upgrade to the Treo or if I just had a lucky pairing and it might not work all the time...But I thought I would pass this info on to whomever found it useful..

A little more info on pairing these would be nice, with a link to the iMuffs.

OOPs, I suppose that would help. Once the headset was charged I attached the adapter to my iPod and turned that on but did not start music. I then turned my phone on and went through the New Partnership. The pairing button on the iMuffs is the volume button, I held that till my phone found it, entered in 0000 and they paired. I really did nothing any different that any other bluetooth device. I did check both hands-free and headset in the settings box and it works. When my phone rings the music pauses and I push the button on the headset to answer.

The link to the iMuffs is... www.wi-gear.com

Hope this helps. I don't know how or why, I am not that much of a techy, but I am happy that it works!!!

OK I have a few more questions.

1. Was the Ipod turned off and the BT pairing disconnected from the adapter before you paired the iMuff and started listening to your 700wx?

2. And you didn't try any of the A2DP hacks floating around on the net, correct?

3. And was the sound in stereo?

4. Also could you post your phone info (Settings>About>Phone) Software Version, Hardware Version, Firmware Version.

1. Was the Ipod turned off and the BT pairing disconnected from the adapter before you paired the iMuff and started listening to your 700wx?

My iPod was off, but the Bluetooth module was attached. The headset was off to begin pairing.

2. And you didn't try any of the A2DP hacks floating around on the net, correct?

I did not try any of those as I was fearful that I would cause something else not to work.

3. And was the sound in stereo?

What I have not tried is to use the Media Player. I do not have any music on my phone at this time. I specifically wanted to use the headset for my iPod but be able to answer my phone when it rings, not to use it as a stereo headset. So my question would be...would other headsets answer phones, but maybe not play media?

4. Also could you post your phone info (Settings>About>Phone) Software Version, Hardware Version, Firmware Version.[/quote]

Software - TREO700WX-1.12SPNT
Hardware - A
Firmware - 108

Now I did have issues last night that the bluetooth would not stay turned on and kept losing the connection. I did a soft reset this morning and all seems to be connected again.

OK, thanks that everyone of my questions.

And yes you can use the headset for calls on the 700wx, that was never a problem. But when A2DP is mention it is all about stereo sound using Media Player or other software, and that is were the problem lies with the 700wx. And you will not be able to get your headset to pair to both devices to work like that. You would literally have to break the paired connection with your adapter, then make sure that its off. Then try to pair your 700wx before it stops ringing.

Hello there!

I saw this thread and wanting to verify if this ROM update was compatible with the Verizon (UTSrarcom) VX6700 as well? I would imagine so since the manufacturer of the phone is the same, but I don't want to take any chances of jacking my phone up? Thanks!!

Yes it works on the VX6700. It is not a ROM update, but a cab file that installs the proper files to bring out A2DP on most WM5 phones.

Thanks!

I installed the update and it works, however my Windows Media Player doesn't like the connection. I have music on my SD card and it seems like the phone is trying to buffer the song from the card to the headphones and it cuts out. Any suggestions?

I downloaded Pocket Player and I am still get the same issue. It looks like the SD card freezes up.

Is there anyone else that has had a similar issue and have a solution? Everything works fine without the headphone
