I was at a Verizon store yesterday with a friend that is interested in either Sprint or Verizon. The Verizon sales rep was explaining the pros of the Verizon service. He also mentioned that Sprint charges for ESN swaps everytime that you change phones. My friend is a geek that changes phones frequently and is almost certain that he will go with Verizon because they do not charge this ESN swap fee. I believe that the ESN swap fee is definitely going to neatively affect Sprint and that the braindead Sprint execs should wake-up and eliminate this ridiculuous fee. |

They may lose out on some customers from that but think of all the money they will make from people who switch. I agree with you I'd like to see it removed but it's a business decision that's been made and I'm sure they'll waiting to see how it works out. By the way there are ways to get around the activation swap fee if you know what to say. |

Larry is right- the money they will be making from people swapping their phone is worth more to Sprint than the few customers they will lose because of it. If Verizon started charging a fee I'd be mad- carriers should not limit you to your phone like that and charge a ridiculous fee for switching phones- I guess that's the beauty of GSM. |

If they can make more money with this fee and not lose to many customers as a result isn't that smart business?

It's smart business-wise but a complete rip-off for customers. Customers are basically locked to using their phone for two years until getting a replacement or incur a silly ESN swap fee. If all CDMA carriers are going to implement this, I can see a few people switching to GSM- I would definitely consider it too.

From what I've read the fee is charged only for ESNs that have not been activated before. If it is a used phone (but new for you) or one of a few that you switch back and forth from you are not supposed to be charged. G. |

It's only an $18 charge if you call in for the ESN swap. That's not really horrible. It's better than $36. Like Gman mentioned it's only for new ESN's that have never been active before. We're still allowed to swap back and forth between exsisting phones if we choose. |

LOl, I know who you mean with $36...that's quite cheap if you ask me. Good for the company though. |

I mean if you think about it $18 is not that much. I blow through and a lot more going out to dinner just one time.

You are absolutely right- but I am still against carriers charging us these kinds of fees. IMHO T-Mobile is looking better and better everyday!
