Right now I have the Treo 650 with alltel and I pay $39 for unlimited data. What are the costs with the 700p with Sprint. I have a line that is due an upgrade and I was considering giving my 650 to one of my employees and getting the 700 through Sprint. I looked on the website and couldn't make out clearly if the $25 ultimate Power Vision pack is all that I would need? Also with the new roaming agreement with alltel will I have the ability to check email and browse the web if I'm roaming on alltel's network with the Sprint 700p? Any info would be great!

Yes, for Palm devices you just need a normal Vision plan. You wouldn't even need the Ultimate plan...you could get Plus ($20) or basic ($15). HOWEVER, this does not include the ability to use your phone as a modem. If you want that ability, you will pay an additional $40/mo on top of the Vision plan if I am not mistaken. Data roaming should work where roaming agreements are in place.

Basic Phone Service: $29.95 Power Vision Phone As Modem Unlimited: $39.95 All EMAIL and web services work as expected, both from computer via tethered DUN and from the device. Since I don't "do" the "SprintTV" or music thingy, I can't comment on those. If you don't want to use DUN, the $15 plan works fine. Note that DUN will *NOT* work with the $15 plan on a Treo 700p, unless you hack the 700p and don't use the Sprint utility for tethered DUN, because EVDO includes a "tethered" bit in its handshaking to say whether it is a standalone or tethered connection and Sprint is paying attention to that now. If you try to do tethered DUN with the $15 plan, all you'll get out of the Sprint utility is "remote computer does not respond" error messages. Believe me, I know that from personal experience (because the idiots at Sprint somehow downgraded my PAM account to a regular PowerVision account as part of re-keypunching it, and my DUN wouldn't work). | |

Correct...and I have learned that while the $40 PAM plan includes internet access from the phone only, no premium services (Sprint TV, etc.) are included like they are on the regular PV plans.

Indeed. But when you can go to YouTube after tethering, who needs SprintTV? |

yeah i mean with the meager home coverage that sprint has......lets just put this as nicely as possible.....i would never go to Sprint for their data i would go to them for their massive voice coverage.....

That is very true and is a problem that the CDMA carriers are going to have to belly up to the bar and fix. All CDMA networks should be allowed to roam on one-another. If they do not start doing this, eventually the GSM providers will overtake Verizon and Sprint. Quote:

intercooperation between the providers is crucial to stand strong against eachother.........but there is money involved and it can get expensive to move along a plan like that
