Default Verizon Services within Extended Network Area

I recently got a Moto V710 phone, with the unlimited Internet/messaging feature included on my Verizon plan.

While in Pender County NC, showing I was on Verizon's Extended Network, I found I couldn't send picture messages to another subscriber, to an email account, or to the vzw-pic place. Also, I couldn't access the Internet through the browser. I could send and receive plain text messages however.

The message I got was simply the the "message could not be sent" or words to that effect.

Has anybody had experience with this or perhaps is it simply not possible to send pictures when outside of the native Verizon area?

Thanks,

Brad

When on an extended network, you are outside of the enhanced services coverage area (a.k.a. verizon's network)... therefore, certain enhanced features (i.e. text messages, mobile web, get it now, etc) should "technically" not be available. But, I've seen a few of the features work on the Alltel footprint along route 29 through central VA...

Hope that helps out.

Thanks Wumpusva. Maybe that's what was happening to me. I could send/receive text messages but not pictures, nor access the Internet.

CDMA roaming still does not do data.
What you do often get while roaming on a different carrier with Verizon is voicemail notification, send/receive SMS, and browse Get it Now and the Web on certain Alltel networks.

Thanks Andy84094. That seems to be what I am getting when on Verizon's Extended Network in NC.

You are welcome. From what has gone around in forums, more CDMA data roaming is to be expected by the end of the year. Verizon is working on it.

Don't complain, Sprint itself doesn't allow their customers to do anything while roaming, other than sometimes receiving VM notifications.
I have once successfully sent a SMS while roaming on Sprint.

That's a good question...I guess we'll have to wait and see.
