Default Verizon Local DigitalChoice Long Distance question.

I have a friend that lives in the same area I live in, but they're on vacation in California. If I call their cell phone i'll get hit with long distance charges right? Would it be the same if they called me from their cell phone?

No, their phone number is just as local as it always was. The phone went to California, not the switch the number is homed to.

If their plan doesn't include roaming in California, then any call your friend makes or receives will be extra cost (to him)--not his caller (you).

So Verizonicon charges (probably other companies as well) by the home of the number itself and not the exactly where the phone is. OK Thank you!

Like cotech said, since your friend is the one who is outside of his local area he will pay long distance and roaming charges, but not you, since the call, on your side, is still a local call to a Verizonicon number.
And yes, every carrier does it the same way with local plans.
