AT&T and Verizon are ok in Cherokee, NC
The Harrah's Cherokee Casino area had good coverage.
I was there a few months ago.
Sprint & SunCom are unheard of in that area.

No not in WNC,
US Cellular has the 800 mhz license instead.

Alltel is however over all the rest of NC & SC & Northeast TN.

In WNC an Alltel phone will roam on Sprint or Verizon.
An Alltel phone can also roam on US Cellular for free in WNC, despite a solid roam symbol.

Which is why I stay on a greater freedom plan. You can roam free on any network in the state with one of those plans.

That said I think some people have found that even on national plans, most USCC systems are free to use.

I could have sworn I got charged roaming when I roamed on USCC on a trip to Cherokee last year (I am on National Freedom). However, on a recent trip to WV I roamed on USCC and was not charged.

No I have Nat'l Freedom 900, and sometimes when I goto Asheville,
I purposely force my phone to & leave my phone on USCC (SID 246)
I've used alot of minutes on them, and I have never gotten charged on USCC 246.

Trust me, I've used USCC alot in WNC (and also SID 309 in NW NC) , you will not get charged on nat'l freedom.
Try roaming on them next time you go there.
