Sprint Enhances Network, Expands Coverage Throughout Alabama Sprint Customers Benefit: 81 New Sites in Alabama and Expanded EVDO CoverageBIRMINGHAM, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 14, 2008--Sprint (NYSE:S) customers in Birmingham can now enjoy the benefits of SprintSpeed(TM) from even more places in Alabama. During 2007, Sprint added 81 new cell sites throughout Alabama and 50 of these sites were added in the Birmingham market*. Sprint customers in the Birmingham area can take advantage of the recent enhancements at the following key locations in the market: -- In and around Talladega, AL -- Cordova -- Eastwood Mall -- Hoover -- Mountain Brook -- Pelham -- Vestavia Hills In addition, while traveling to Montgomery, AL, customers will now be able to experience the faster Sprint Mobile Broadband network. Sprint Mobile Broadband with EV-DO (Evolution - Data Optimized) Revision (Rev.) A technology, combined with a wide variety of EV-DO Rev. A-capable devices, allow customers to send and receive email with large file attachments, access the Internet in seconds and enjoy streaming video and other real-time applications, as well as location-based solutions, on the go. "Sprint is constantly working to enhance and expand its networks throughout Alabama and the country," said Jeff Bennett, area vice president for Sprint. "Sprint offers customers the largest voice calling area, largest mobile broadband network and the world's fastest and largest push-to-talk network. Nationally during 2007, Sprint added more than 4,000 cell sites to the Nationwide Sprint Network and Nextel National Network. The tool equips customers with knowledge about network coverage in the areas where they live, work and play, and helps them make informed decisions regarding services from Sprint. By entering an address or ZIP code, customers can check the availability of wireless coverage, recently added cell sites and the network signal strength on the Nextel National Network, Nationwide Sprint Network or Sprint Mobile Broadband Network. *Cities included in and around Birmingham: Bessemer; Birmingham; Brookwood; Chelsea; Columbiana; Cordova; Guin; Haleyville; Hamilton; Helena; McCalla; Montevallo; Mountain Brook; Oneonta; Pelham; Talladega; Trussville; Vestavia Hills; Vincent, and Warrior. Well this is true to somewhat. Sprint has added new cell sites and has upgraded their nationwide 1900 mhz. all digital network, but the drawback with Sprint lately has been they have not added but 4 new cell towers along the LA, MS gulf coast. Their Poor response to bring back up their system after Hurricane Katrina was last. Fact out of the seven wireless carriers along the MS, LA Gulf Coast Sprint was #6 with only T-Mobile to be the last one to restore service. The #1 system witch did not go down was Southern Linc Wireless, mainly because their owned by Southern Company the largest power generator in the south, & second was Cellular South an indepenent company out of Jackson Mississippi. Sprint could get back some of their lost coustomers if they would just tweek an realign the cell sites, & by not being scared to add new cell towers. AT&T ,ALLTEL, & Cellular South, have added new towers, enhanced their existing towers, and incorperated a redundence system to ensure their network is strong during even the worst weather possible, while Verizon Wireless is working hard to put new cell towers up in the area is because their FCC license for sections of MS, & LA were just issued on FEB the 5th of 2008.
