We're comparing plans for 5 users at my nonprofit. The price from Suncom is quite a bit better than the price from Verizon, so I'm wondering if there's a big difference in the network. We are looking only at regional (won't need national), but will be traveling along the coast from Beaufort to Georgetown. Any advice?

I have never heard a single good comment about Suncom in the years I have been following these forums. You may also want to check out ALLTEL, as their network is great and their plans are a little more friendly, compared to Verizon.

Ugh... SunCom blows. If its between Verizon and SunCom, hands down go with Verizon.

I would go with Verizon. I was on SunCom a few years back in the Charleston (Mt. pleasant) area, and it wasn't a great experience. On the interstates, its fine, but in the city i had more dropped calls and calls that wouldnt go through than any other network ive been on. Save yourself the time and the hassle, go with verizon, youll be happy you did.

Suncom is horrid. Go with Alltel. They have a great network, esp. in the Carolinas. I would say that they are the cheapest too. You definitely get your $$ worth with Alltel. Suncom appears cheaper, but you have to pay extra for nights and weekends, mobile to mobile and their circle thing costs extra too. Add to that, their network blows. Verizon is by far the most expensive and Alltel has just as good a network, maybe even slightly better in the Carolinas. I travel allover the Carolinas for work and always get great service. They may even give you a deal since you are a non-profit. PM me. I may have a contact that can help you.

SunCom is pretty much the worst carrier in the United states by all accounts. I would go with Alltel in the carolinas over anyone else. I'm sure verizon's network is okay there. But you will want to make sure you don't end up paying more then you want. But considering alltel's network and price is better in the Carolinas overall then either of those. I think you really should look at Alltel you will probably save money and have a better network.

Stay away from Suncom. Stick with Verizon, Alltel, or ATT.

I did call AllTel, but they don't have a shared minute plan for data devices. I think the rep said only the 1st device can have the data portion & it will only share voice with the other 4.

No doubt about it, go with either Alltel or Verizon. Alltel works great everywhere I go; Even in the middle of the most rural areas. In the rural areas, If you're lucky, you'd find a Verizon tower here & there...but mostly, Alltel has the most "good" signal areas from my experience. SunCom & Sprint like to build their network along major highways and big/medium cities in the Carolinas. They don't even care about the rural areas. I do have an AT&T/SunCom tower in my backyard, but even that won't make me switch. All GSM in the Carolinas uses the 1900 MHz spectrum, and it all sux in rural areas (especially between Gaffney & York/Rock Hill). CDMA is the way to go the Carolinas.

I appreciate all the help. I'm disappointed to hear the negative comments about Suncom since their quote was around 1/2 of Verizons!

Most of Alltel's towers in the Carolinas have alot more range than most every other carrier. (3-5 miles in rural areas, and sometimes up to 10 miles). Lots of Verizon, Sprint & SunCom towers I've seen go only about no more than 2½ miles. The Alltel tower that serves my house is 3 miles away, and I get almost perfect signal inside & outside.

| Unlimited data should be added onto additional lines at a per-line rate. I think it's $30 for a pda/smartphone. I would try to get ahold of a rep that knows how to do what you're wanting because there's plenty of people that want two pda/smartphones on the same account.

Alltel is probably your best option. Suncom is a cruel joke. If you have noticed there is nobody in this thread telling you to get Suncom either. Take a look at Sprint because they have decent coverage and you can roam off Alltel and Verizon. You should get very good coverage with Sprint on the main roads and in most towns. The rural areas are probably roaming from Alltel or maybe Verizon instead of native Sprint coverage but roaming is free so its like 3 networks for the price of one. Check out a SERO plan. It probably isn't what you want since you are going to have 5 phones but SERO plans are a great deal. Good luck. |

It's due to tower height, and that it's a straight line up my street to I-85. In the winter, when theres little foliage on the trees, I can see the tower's light flashing up top. My neighbor across the street doesn't get as good of a signal, but still ok. So I'm somewhat fortunate (line of sight = even better signal) Here's the picture of the Alltel tower serving my house in the WA gallery: http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/s...hp?i=4192&c=44 ... And also, there are two 150 ft towers nearby for VZW & SunCom (the 270 ft Alltel tower is in the middle, a bit further, so it appears shorter): http://gallery.wirelessadvisor.com/s...hp?i=4368&c=44
