I'm on Verizon right now and living in Baltimore but I want to get the new Blackberry 8800 which are only available from T-mobile and Cingular. I'd like to hear from people living in Baltimore as well as the DC area since I'll be moving there soon. T-mobile's plan is very cheap, only $60/mth for good minutes and unlimited data plan, compared to Cingular's $20-$30 more a month. Does the price difference really represent the difference in quality I'll get between the two? Does anyone have any real issues with T-mobile? Appreciate any input. Thanks. |

Hazarrd, I can't comment on the Blackberry 8800 or Cingular, but based on my year or so using a TMobile Sidekick, along with my Verizon primary phone, I really think that TMobile in the DC area works as well or sometimes better than Verizon anyway. The service I have is voice and the Sidekick data plan - great little tool for emailing and basic browsing. We travel into North and South Carolina often and TMobile, while not native to those states, works very well there through it's roaming agreements (ironically through Cingular I believe), at least in the places we visit, not all of which are in metropolitan areas. From my own research, I wouldn't dismiss Cingular as a provider of good service and connectivity but, as you mention, they aren't as price competitive as TMobile. Verizon is too prescriptive in how they allow you to use a phone's features and what they do/don't allow you to access. Putting it another way, if I didn't have any cell service at the present, but knew what I know about TMobile, I think I would settle on them for my provider. If they were to buy Suncom, that would really cinch the deal in my opinion. I hope this helps a bit and hopefully you will get some comments from those familiar with Cingular as well. Brad |

I can't comment on Cingular, but I've had T-Mobile for 7 years in the DC area. I recently moved to PA but still have TMO, and work in Silver Spring 3x per week so I travel through Balto. My length of service should suffice for TMO in DC Metro - never had a reason to consider a need to change my provider. I should also state that I don't need high speed data services, so I can't comment on that.

I've had Cingular in the Baltimore area for about 6 years. It's been great for me. I'm not in Baltimore much, I live south of Baltimore near Annapolis. When I'm there for business and Ravens games, it's worked great for me.

I've had CIngular in the DC area since 2000 and have been very pleased. Cingular has better rural coverage than TMO, something you may want to consider if you spend any amount of time away from the city. -Jay

And Cingular has solid 3G coverage in the Baltimore/DC area, also.
