Default Recommended Service in Orlando, FL ?

I'm relocating to Orlando, FL and instead of getting a land line, I plan to just have a cell phone. Anyone have any recommendations? Are there any 1-year plans available, or only 2-year?

Daniel

Verizon has one year plans. The discounted phone price would be $50 more than 2 year plans. Don't know about the other carriers. My daughter is visiting Orlando now and has good coverage.

Are you aware that there are certain things you can't do without a land line? One I can think of now is apply for a credit card. If you have parents or close relatives with a landline you can use their number when you need a land line number for some transaction.

I have a number of credit cards and all of them but one I think have my cell number listed as my home phone. I almost always use my wireless number when applying for a credit card and never been denied because I gave that number. I know in the field it says home phone but if your enter your cell phone number every company I've seen takes it just fine.

A Number of the wireless companies offer 1-year plans; With T-mobile and Sprint, you have to request the 1-year option and you'd have to call telesales or visit the carrier's store. I started out w/ a 1yr contract with VZW. If you get a 1yr contract, expect higher phone prices. I know a friend w/ VZW near Orlando and he is happy with the service. My other pal, who has Cingular, has her ups and downs w/ reception with her phone... she was on the blue side perhaps upgrading helped her out.

Same here. I have not had a home phone in years and have had no problems with credit cards.

Verizon is said to have great coverage around the Orlando area. Do you have a cellphone now or are you first-time shopping?

This would be my first wireless phone. As opposed to using only a cell phone, now I plan to have broadband internet service at my residence and use the Skype In and Skype Out service which I like very much. I'll probably use Skype for most of my calls. I'll be working M-F 9-5 so I can use the phone at work if I need to. I don't foresee using a cellphone much but it would come in handy occasionally. I'm thinking a $30 or $40 per month plan would be enough. Then again, maybe a prepaid cellphone might be better for me. Which do you think would be better basic monthly plan or prepaid plan?

Prepaid plans are generally much more expensive than monthly plans if you are planning on using your phone for anything more than an emergency phone.
