I have a problem that I was hoping this forum could help me solve. I have a Nokia 6310i operating in Jacksonville FL. It's a triband phone (GSM/GPRS 900/1800/1900 MHz ‡ ) that was working great on AT&T wireless, but has practically useless since the Cingular merger.....it seems to get worse every month too. It's a great phone, with modern features, and I'm wondering how I can move it to another provider. The search engine on this website indicated that Cingular is running 800 MHz in this market. Verizon and others are running 1900 which might work better for my phone. Maybe I need to get the phone 'unlocked' or something? Anyone out there have any input? |

Hello and WELCOME to WA. As you mentioned you have a GSM triband phone and the only other GSM provider is T-Mobile and yes they run on 1900 MHZ so if you get your phone unlocked you can move over to T-Mobile. Verizon etc. are CDMA carriers so even if they run on 1900 your phone will not work, they are 2 different technologies. Maybe you can look at the T-Mibile coverage map and see if that will work for you. Hope this helps.

It sounds like your best bet is to get an unlocked or AT&T Wireless branded phone on Ebay that has the 850/1900 band. Even if you unlock your phone, you still won't be able to get the 850 band and you can't use it with Verizon, Sprint or Alltel as Charlee has stated only T-Mobile is the other GSM option in FL. Once you get a phone with both 850/1900 you should be good to go with coverage and making calls. |
