I am new to the Mandeville/New Orleans area post Katrina and I continue to have lots of dropped calls using Cingular. Anyone has info on provider that does not have this problem?

I would have to recommend Verizon from my experiences in the area. I was in Slidell about a month after katrina hit the area. At the time all the carriers had some kind of service back in place. But only my phone was able to dial out every time with good voice quality. My friends on Cingular were not able to dial out except after multiple tries. That's my experiences. The best advice would be to try out someone else for the 15 day trial and see how it works for you. Good luck!

Alltel. Great coverage, good cs, more for your money including My Circle which is awesome! Verizon is too expensive.

Verizon coverage in the area is said to be pretty good, however on the outskirts Verizon will fall back on ALLTEL, who is also said to have a great network in the area and their pricing is better. Both carriers have trial periods so try them out and see which one fits you best.

I had MANY problems with Cingular after the hurricane. I had to switch to Verizon.....although I was evacuated to a different area at the time. But back in New Orleans, I use my Verizon phone, and it works fine. No problems.

I admit that I have never been to the area, but it appears that the consensus is between Verizon and Alltel. I would say that either company would cover the area well and you would be happy with either, but by looking at the native coverage areas for Verizon (below) and Alltel (map), Alltel has much more native coverage in areas surrounding the city and therefore might be a better bet because you don't know how roaming agreements will work out in the future. Plus, they are a little cheaper and have MyCircle.

hey not to brag too much, but we had at alltel call processing working at 50% level within 1 week of the water going down, first carrier to do so in NOLA area. also during the hurricane, text never failed and we lost only one tower during the whole thing. once we had power to them they were back on.
