Cingular Wireless Adds Ten New Cell Sites in Greensboro Area
More Than 200 New Sites Added in the Carolinas in the Last Six Months


CHARLOTTE, N.C., April 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The nation's largest wireless carrier continues to grow its North Carolina network. Cingular Wireless today said it recently added 10 new cell sites in the Greensboro area, and plans to turn on a total of 196 statewide before the end of the year. The company has added more than 200 new cell sites in the Carolinas in the last six months, enhancing wireless service for those who live, work and play in the region.

The new sites bring enhanced or additional coverage in and around the following areas:

- Between Pleasant Ridge Rd. and Old Oak Ridge Rd.
- Along Hwy. 24, Liberty Hill Church Road and Wadeville Rd.
- The area between Wall Rd. and Drake Rd.
- Along Hwy. 109 and Dart Springs Mountain Trail
- Along Hwy. 220, Sutton Rd. and Old Randleman Rd.
- The area between Old Thomasville Rd., Shady Grove Church Rd. and
Friendship Ledford Rd.
- The area between Brightwood School Rd., Lees Chapel Rd. and Scott Rd.
- The area between I-77, Hunting Creek Church Rd. and Buck Shoals Rd.

The new sites also bring new coverage to these areas near Greensboro:

Cingular Wireless plans to spend more than $210 million on its North Carolina network before year end, increasing coverage and capacity, building 196 total new cell sites, adding portable generators and back-up batteries, and offering enhanced new features. Significantly, Cingular recently launched its third-generation (3G) wireless network technology in 16 major cities, with more to follow across the country, including North Carolina. With 3G, customers will access information and applications at broadband speeds in the office, on the road or at home. The service-via laptop data cards or 3G-compatible phones this year-provides average mobile data connections between 400-700Kbps (kilobits per second) on the downlink and bursts to more than a megabit per second. Cingular's local investment is part of a more than $6 billion commitment to enhance and expand its ALLOVER(SM) Network nationwide.
