Hi All, I am trying to decide on the best plan for use in VA and SC. I think I have narrowed the choice to Suncom and Sprint. Has anybody had good or bad experiences with either of these companies? Also, has anybody tried using either of these plans based in VA and calling to SC? Any advice would be appreciated! Confused in VA |

I have been a Suncom customer for about a month now, recently leaving Cingular after being with them for close to 6 years. I switched because Suncom has the Unplan, plus I get much better voice quality and a higher signal in my house. I have only used a landline two or three times since I got Suncom...I spend about three hours on my mobile a day and have not yet experienced a dropped call. Although it's only been a month, I'm very pleased with Suncom.

If you are traveling in both VA and SC either company will work well for you, if you are primarly going to be in VA calling to SC you may want to look into US Cellular as they have great coverage in your area. What areas in SC are you going to be in?

Well I can't speak for South Carolina but as far as Virginia goes IMO SunCom has better coverage. SunCom (Triton PCS) has a strong network in VA and SC from what I can tell. SunCom |

Okay, so I have good reports for SunCom and Verizon. The Unplan for Sun sounds good, but Verizon seems expensive. Has anybody tried or using Sprint?

I see you are in Roanoke. From what I have heard Sprint PCS is weak in that area. By the way I've heard that SunCom is very good in both Roanoke and Myrtle Beach, SC. IMO you should avoid Sprint PCS. |

All right, so I am narrowing my decision to SunCom or Verizon. I know that in Verizon, the best phone for sound quality is the 4400 ( I am assuming that Verizon users know what phone model that is). What is the favorite for for Suncom? And another stupid newbie question, why do all Wireless companies have their own phones? Whay can't they be interchangeable, or are they and they just don't advertise that fact? |

Well I have a Nokia 8265 with SunCom and I am very happy with my phone and service. I think its one of if not there best phone right now. The Nokia 6360 is also good from what I have heard but I find it's a little too large for me.

Keep in mind Suncom is a regional provider converting from TDMA -> GSM... so if you go with GSM you won't have service in a lot of areas until they finish the upgrades. Stay out of the conversion mess and go with a solid company. (VZW) |

SunCom isn't GSM in that area yet so that is not a problem. Also I think you are forgetting something Jayc, there is no Verizon Wireless in Myrtle Beach, SC. You would roam on ALLTEL down there. I can't speak for the coverage down there now but last time I was in Myrtle Beach a few years back with my grandmother's ALLTEL phone there network down there was quite poor. It's proabely improved since then or at least I hope it has. |

You might consider Verizon also. the America's Choice price plan is good, especially if you travel to neighboring states... If you choose Verizon, do not order anything by phone, but rather go to an OFFICIAL company store. If I can make a recomendation, for phones go with the new LG4400, so far we have had excellent results and my tech tell me that our customers are quite happy with that particular phone..hope this helps.

Sun: If you go with the VZW America's Choice PP, Myrtle Beach is covered, in fact the Carolinas have excellent coverage with either the local pp or the aforementioned Amerchoice... You cannot go wrong with either. |
